Mesaba

So it just got me wondering with the planes transitioning over from PCL to Mesaba what is Mesaba doing lately for filling classes and having those who were let go return (if there were any crazy enough to wait)? Also with them getting these planes of the future look like in genearl for Mesaba since they are now owned by Northwest?

Obviously no one knows the future but just in general? Not me personally looking but if you were a low time pilot and Mesaba called would you take it? Reason for taking it or not taking it etc? Just wondering how many would want to be in the Turbo prop and fly for the pay scale of Mesaba?

Well, I know one thing. They can't use the "pilot cost" method for losing these planes. Mesaba's "concessionary" pay scale is more than PCL's.....

Returning furloughs have been in class for a few weeks, and they've got classes filled at least into July. I'm in the May 28th Saab class, I don't care that it's a turbo-prop (I've got no SJS)... once (if/when) the pay rates snap back, XJ will have the highest rates for the 340 in the US (as far as i know). XJ has a single FO rate, so those flying the jets will not get proper pay, IMO. Not to mention that (as kellwolf has pointed out many times), even with the concessions, the XJ contract is better than a number of jet operators.

DTW base will be nice as I grew up there. A lot of people knock it, but only b/c they never see the area outside of the airport (ie. the real OC, A squared, etc.). The biggest drawback is being affiliated w/ NWA... but if I'm reaallllllly lucky, maybe I won't be around after the next negotiations are through. And even then, if they actually hire as many as they're proposing within the next two years, I should be in fairly good shape if furloughs come around.

That's my slightly drunken take on things, anyways.
