You suppose I could run up 775 hours (and a few odd ratings) by June 30?? It's only taken 9 years to get the first 225.

That's what I was thinking. If I would just have won the AOPA twin, I could have ran up the hours like crazy and possible made it. If you're at 225TT you are getting pretty close to that CP-ASEL. Are you shooting for a certain date? HAve you done any of the XC stuff yet?

I've checked all the boxes except TT and actually being able to perform the maneuvers (I've learned them; I just suck). I'm shooting for June for CSEL (was April, but here we are). But with baby coming in 4-8 weeks, I'm sure the schedule will change.

I just got hired on by Mesaba and I am waiting for a class date. Everything I have heard about this company is great. I can't wait to start.

Congrats...They have been hiring in so many areas her in MSP that it is crazy. It seems they are hiring ramp people every other week. They seem to be going like gangbusters. Good Luck in training.

Yeah they hire rampers pretty much every week because the pay is terribly low for the conditions they're expected to work in.

Mesaba will no doubt be hiring a considerable number of pilots - they were just awarded 15 CRJ's(44 seat versions) with rights for the next 20 NWA puts into the system(20 in addition to the 15 for a total of at least 35 jets).

Jason

PS - I had a long trip yesterday that took me thru DTW and MSP - - - - 32 degrees and SNOWING in DTW - sunny and 60 degrees in MSP!! WTFO??

I have never seen an airline that has paid their rampers well and didn't have a high turnover rate.

Strating pay for Rampers in MSP for Mesaba......$9.00

Jason- I could of swore I read 50 seaters today in ops.

That could be - I don't know - I just got the '44' figure from a Mesaba mechanic. I do know they're not the 70's that everyone was hoping for.

$9.00 an hour - unreal! You can make that working at the Mall Of America and not have to be outside in blizzard conditions freezing your n%^s off standing in a deicing tower.

Yea, but you don't get the flight bene's

As bad as $9.00 seems, it does provide a foot in the door and you meet the right people if you desire to become a FO for them some day. A former CFI at my fbo worked pt for them throwing bags and he is now a FO on the AVRO. I was actually offered a pt job with them as a ramper, but could not take it due to my "main" job and it's rotating schedule. I have probably tarnished my name there a little by turning down the job, but hopefully they will understand when and if the time comes to apply for a pilot position there.

Jason, on a side note have you been to the MOA? I would not want to work there for $9/hr too many people and you'd be cooped up all day inside. I much rather be outside sniffing jet fuel.

Where do you stop when coming through MSP? Signature? I'm always watching there for any openings. Gotta get to work on those networking opportunities you know.

Yeah I've had the unfortunate experience of going to the MOA - my crashpad was right across the street - right behind that IHOP.

Last time I went thru MSP(Sunday I think) I parked at A12.

As in gate A12? I didn't think the corporate jets parked at the main gates. (If you are still flying corporate, fractional, etc...I just looked at yoru bio and saw that info.) Are you still based in MSP ro have you moved on.

Oh no that's way outdated - I guess I need to change that. I'm back to slumming it at the airlines. I'm a 9E Capt.

We had an EXTREMELY low turnover rate at SWA in MCO, and our rampers started at $8.75/hr. I started 12th from the bottom in seniority, and when I left I was 13th from the bottom, over two years later. The guy on the bottom had to transfer to Philly to move up in seniority.

And you have to look past the per hour pay. Not sure what the cost of living is in MSP, but $8.75 in Orlando, and you still gotta have roommates. However, SWA has the best insurance package I've ever had with any employer, profit sharing, 401K and flight benefits. The couple of good things about SWA's flight benes is you don't have to pay anything (not even taxes) to fly, and it's totally first come, first served instead of a seniority system like some airlines have. For example, Herb Kelleher could lose his seat to me (assuming for some ungodly reason he's travelling space available) if I get there first. At other airlines, he could show up 20 minutes to push time and I'd be toast.

With $9.00 in MSP you will need roommates. That will not pay the rent by any means especially if you want to live anywhere where you don't have to worry aboutshhotings, drugs, hookers, you get the picture.

The biggest thing with the turnover I believe is the elements that we have her in MSP. Everyone likes to be outside in the summer, but come winter, forget freezing your nuts off.

The bene's were o.k. at Mesaba but the travel was indeed senority based. We could also ride on NWA but you were at the very bottom of the pole. I think Mesaba was better than than the travel bene's at NWA. At NWA it was based: 1. class of employee, 2. senority, and 3. type of travel. Union was class 5, mgmt. class 3, parents class 6.
So me being a mgmgt employee with 1 day of senority could bump a union worker with 10 years of senority. There were special passes you could earn that would trump that, but that was the basic format. Also the union employess paid $15 o/w coach and $30 first class. I paid $00.00 for either one. We always booked first and would get that if available.

I just left my ramp job at Skyway which paid $7.25 per hour. That really sucked. I did take a big jump in pay now that I'm an FO for Mesaba. Starting $23.54
