MEI as initial?

Did you lock the doors?
Hey so was wondering if anybody did their MEI as there initial...that's the plan right now, was just looking for some feedback and feelings about doing it first.(easier that way? FSDO put more pressure on the ride because of multi engine considerations) Any suggestions for study material?

Thats how allATPs does it. Not a bad way to go to build multi time. And take your AGI and IGI writtens, same tests (only shorter) as the priv. and Inst. I think you dont go over the fundamentals in instrucion and I know it cuts your oral from 7hrs to maybe 3 or 4! Little detail no one told me. :banghead:

Sure why not. My initial was my CFI-I. In the end its all the same. Just depending on what your initial is depends the questions the examiner can ask on top of your FOI stuff.

Any Instructor checkride you do as an initial, you ALWAYS go over FOI stuff. There is no way that you would get an initial instructor rating without hitting that stuff. As for the MEI initial ride, I've talked to a few people and have heard it is tougher than CFI-A because of what you said, with Multi, more factors to consider. Either way, good luck!!

I did my MEI as my initial and thought it was the better way to do it. It saved me money by using the multi for my complex time for commercial SEL, then commercial multi add-on, then switch to the right seat in the same plane. I didn't feel any additional burden doing my MEI first and my CFI-A was not even one hour of flight time. The single add-on was the easiest check ride I ever took. I would recommend it as the way to go.

thanks...seems like the way togo...the add on comm, cfi and cfii can all be done in a c-150, so i get the multi time and save the money later in the cessna...good times, thanks guys...

there should be plenty of threads on this by using the search function. The arguments for and against still hold. Good luck in whatever you choose

I think unless youre going through a program like ATP, youre actually going to end spending more money doing youre MEI as an initial CFI. I would say that it takes more than 10 hours to be ready for an MEI initial checkride. just my opinion.

yeah, i guess i didn't mean save money overall...just meant when it was time to go and do the addons i would save a little money cause i could do it in a non complex single, plus its a bit less to worry about on the checkrides...def agree i'm spending a little more, but now that i've done everything else in the multi, the flow would be easier to just continue with the mei as the initial...i'm doing it ATP style i guess...the idea was to come out of all the training and begin instructing already having 100hrs of multi pic for the hiring biz later...less stress trying to find the multi time after i have the other mins for a regional...i'm even trying to secure a couple multi students right away while i finish up my single eng stuff(comm sing, cfi, cfii)...we'll see...

sounds like a great plan then and the MEI initial is your best option.
