Medical renewing question

Possible Subversive
Last time I went to get a medical I discovered I had difficulty ah.. producing... the specimen requested by the doc (Remember in future: don't go before you go!). So, I chugged down the only beverage that was nearby (A Dr. Pepper) which in retrospect was inadvisable.
It was inadvisable as because now although I could pee I tested trace positive for glucose in the urine. He tested my blood sugar with a regular blood glucose machine and it was high although not unusually so for non-fasting test (it was like 138.) The AME said that I had to go to my doc and get some labs done to make sure I didn't have diabetes and he'd have to refer my certificate until then, as he didn't have the capability to do any lab work (he's a pedatrician.)

So, I did... went to my regular doc (who is also an AME actually but only does 3rd and 2nd class) and he told me not to worry about it, that sort of thing happens but he'd do all the tests so he could write a letter to the FAA for me. So, took another urinalysis, another blood sugar test and then drew blood for the hemaglobin a1c.

Everything was fine so I sent the letter to the FAA. And I waited. By the way, my advice to anyone is if possible always fax stuff to the FAA. Otherwise your letters spend like 2-3 weeks in security so they make sure you're not sending them anthrax or something. Anyway, after a while they cleared me and I got my new medical in the mail.

My question is -- when I go take my next physical, do I have to write down in the new medical history part 'glycosuria' now? Or would that not be considered new since I took care of it last medical?

No, it was ruled out with the subsequent tests.

The lessons here are:
1) If you are an adult, don't go to a pediatrician:laff:
2) See an AME who does a high volume of exams. 85% of AME's do fewer than 25 exams a year.

The letter that they sent me which had enclosed my first class medical certificate (signed by Walter S. Silberman's autopen himself no less ;) ) said something along the lines of: 'Here's your medical. We remind you about following the law in Part 67. Due to your history of glycosuria flying is prohibited if you develop any new symptoms.'

It sounded very form lettery but I was curious. There aren't any restrictions or anything on my certificate.

And yes, I think that will be the last time I go to that AME. Hopefully by the time I need to renew I'll just be able to jumpseat over to your practice. :)
