Meanwhile in Long Beach...

Yeah, it looks like one of the banner guys had to put it down on the freeway.

I've been looking for an emergency landing spot off of 25L for a long time. You don't have a lot of great options and the 405 freeway is usually a parking lot

That's right next to the airport if I recall right Krieger?

Left OC in 2010 and haven't flown there in awhile
It was right by/next to the overpass bridge at the Orange Ave exit ramp in Signal Hill, (he struck the power line there between Cherry Ave and Orange with the missing wing in the photo above) wound up on the embankment next to the 405 which is a few blocks from LGB. She belongs to Aerial Promotions there. And yeppers, it's a Bellanca Scout. Pilot is luckily okay.

Drove past it. Glad to know the pilot is okay.

We watched it from a rooftop deck where we were having lunch with one of my best friends on 32nd street and Orange in Signal Hill about two blocks away, after I had just come in from work and my wife had picked me up to go over there for the afternoon/evening. Had seen the banner detach (looked like near Spring or Walnut) and he was really low. We called 9/11 and raced over there and I was in the fricking bushes/trees while Jesse was on the other side of the wall as he had just boosted my ass over the retaining wall past the closed grade school just east of the ramp exit when 4 Signal Hill PD rolled up on the other side of the wall where Jesse was, I was sliding/galumping my ass down there as best I could and the first LB fire truck was coming down the 405 towards us. Our wives were standing on the walkway of the bridge on Orange watching with some other neighbors. Pilot was only slightly banged up but wobbly and shook up understandably. Paramedics took him off to Long Beach Memorial to be checked out though. Sig Hill PD drove us back to Jesse's place. Our pizza got cold. Power was off for some time after we got back to their house. I had a beer. Only second one I have had this year. Kinda nerve wracking, but he's fine and that's all that matters. He's very lucky and I think that hitting the power line sort of arrested him, actually.

I'd like to think I would react in a similar fashion. Sad to say but doing so could result in being named in a lawsuit. I've seen planes crash/people die and been named in a lawsuit, it's a very strange world we inhabit. Glad the pilot involved is OK. P.S. The 405 has been a little better since they reopened those lanes at the 10.

I know what you mean but I have never thought about that and always hoped the good Samaritan Laws would apply. (am I naive or what?) I cannot begin to count the number of road accidents, cars on fire, people stranded, all kinds of crap that I have stopped for over the decades, some of them deadly and tried to help and render aid. I only know basic first aid and a few things beyond that and CPR but I figure I can do something useful and I do carry a decent first aid kit, a blanket, towels and extinguishers, bungies, tools and crap. I can't just ignore them or stand by and watch. I always hope that if I were in a similar situation or one of my friends or loved ones were, that someone would help. I have stepped in many times when someone was going off on a child or a dog or a woman too. I just can't help it. Probably will wind up getting my ass kicked or something one day. It is sad and distressing that so many people are so ungrateful, looking for an easy out/excuse/someone to blame and lawsuit happy.

The funniest part is that I could hear Sue yelling at me from the bridge in Italian when I was on the embankment. I told one of the fireman, "that's my wife". lmao Cracked him up. When he went down to stand by the road he yelled up and said, "she's waving." lol Man, those guys are in shape. There were a couple of trucks on the emergency lane on the 405 and a smaller one up above beyond the wall. One guy hoisted himself up over that wall like it was two feet tall and just sprinted down the hill like a damn mountain goat in like 3 seconds, compared to me picking my way down, stumbling over the rocks going ouch, oooooch, eeeek, and holding onto the tree parts and shrubs. lol

The freeways here are really a mess. Have you seen the 405 going into Seal Beach and then at the 22 exchange? Bejebus! That's been jacked up/under construction for over a year and it doesn't look like anything will change there for years. I can't even see any progress, in it since they started. lol I am in Seal Beach on the ocean side and my oldest son is on the Rossmore/inland side by Seal Beach Blvd and trying to get through the mess just to drive over there is ridiculous. And there has been construction on the I-5 for what, 7 years now?

Agree with your approach (haha) and having supplies on hand, good for you. About 20 yrs ago I was minding my business driving home and saw a van (http://www.google.com/#sclient=tabl...a2&biw=1024&bih=672&biv=i|3;d|peZAQsI53sX4WM:) with what appeared to be a 2 yr old driving it, downhill. I stopped, jumped out of my truck and grabbed the door handle of the van as it went by. Opened the door and jumped in and slammed on the brakes, previously mentioned 2 yr old went from the rear of the vehicle to the front post haste. Father not watching his kid came running up wanting to have a fight. Really, I just pretty much ripped my arm out of my shoulder and kept your van from damaging/hurting anything and it's my fault? I got back in my truck and haven't lifted a finger since.

I am sorry to read this. Many peoples are just flat out jackasses. There is no denying this and I am sorry he reacted that way. I can really see how that would be upsetting. Two of my fave films are Simon Birch and Pay It Forward. I have to believe that there is meaning in life and that we all are here for some purpose. Now whether we recognize that, believe it or use it, is up to us. One day, you will be given another opportunity....don't pass it by because of what happened in the past. Shake it off and keep making the world a better place as much as you can in small and large ways. Do what you can no matter what. Do what is right even if no one cares or appreciates it or sees it. Don't let one idiot take that from you. Don't give him that right/power. You'll be better and feel better in the end, I guarantee this. He'll still just be an ass.

I'll still try to help but haven't been put in a similar situation since. Just pointing out that if your going to do the right thing you might find yourself in a weird spot. Should've had margaritas and this is my homey, instead I got threatened. •.

I understand. I had to testify once in a terrible accident that I witnessed back in the 80's and tried to help the guy on the motorcycle that was hit by a van, speeding through a red light and driven by the drunk daughter of a very well known, wealthy person. He died laying in the street while I was holding his hand. But he did not die alone. It was very traumatic for me. They tried to bribe me, then threaten me, you name it. They harassed the hell outta me. I actually had to hire an attorney for myself. It was pretty awful and something I have never forgotten. But I never forgot something my Father taught us is that someone, one person has to act and not turn their back and that it didn't matter what it cost you or how hard it might be. You can't justify not doing it.

So if you see my old ass broke down by the side of the 405 , I expect to you stop! lol
