MD-90 #1

Always sucks when the first aircraft of a particular model, ends up as junk. Seems to be common practice often. For example, the first MD-90, N901DC, ended up as scrap at KIGM instead of in a museum someplace. Probably wasn't practical to save, but still.

That is just depressing, a piece of aviation history that can never be replaced, at least there's still The Wright Flyer

Bone yards do the same thing to me... I hate seeing the birds die.

Had some DC-8s scrapped on the ramp next to the hangar where I worked years ago.

Seeing them die was depressing enough, but hearing it ripped your heart out :(

However, we scored a ton of wire and circuit breakers for our side projects :)

This strong emotional attachment to the equipment used in our JOBS is a major reason this industry is the way it is. You don't see accountants have emotional attachments to their pencils or ditch diggers attached to their shovels. A plane is a TOOL used to do a JOB. They wear out and need to be replaced periodically.

I've got to tell you. I love your town. Just got back from phoenix and it's night and day compared to Lincoln, Ne. It was an awesome vacaciones

A friend a couple years ago forwarded me a pic of an Independence RJ that looked about like that one. Less than 10 years old.

Edit: Like this one:

Sad. But not quite as sad as those pictures of that last flyable Convair 990 being ripped asunder.
