McAir Aviation

Hello,

I currently live in Washington State. I will be graduating with a four year degree at the end of January and am looking for a place to finish off my flight ratings. I have my CSEL and want to get my multi add on and my CFI ratings. I have done a lot of research on JC and other forums. It seems that I cannot find much if any negative information about McAir Aviation in Denver. I have talked with some instructors from there and they seem to be quite positive about the place. Does anyone have insight on this company?

I was considering moving down to Denver, getting an apartment, and finding a part time job such as working at KDEN while I get my ratings. While some say the prices there are high, the planes are nicer and are cheaper than what you will find in the Seattle area. I would much rather take some time really learning the material at an FBO styled school than going to an academy.

Any recommendations on apartments in the KBJC area? Any comments overall on McAir Aviation? Good management that you can trust? Let me know. Thanks!

McAir is great place to be. I had the pleasure of working there for about 3 years and really had a great time. It is kind of a mix between small FBO and academy style. I even hate to mention the 'academy' part but there is a bit of standardization which = great learning at a laid back pace :)

All the airplanes are new and very well maintained. Nice building, nice folks, solid curriculum and high standards make for a great learning environment.

Milesar is currently employed there, I am sure he will chime in soon enough. PM me for details, but I highly recommend it.

I flew at McAir for two years, I can't think of anything bad to say about the place. You won't have any trouble finding an apartment as the airport seems to be surrounded by them.

McAir is a great place. I got my CFI from there and suggest them to anyone out there who is looking for excellent training. I was there around the time TimBuff10 and Bike21 were among the usual suspects and always found myself learning more. Well maintained airplanes and a knowledgeable, professional staff keep the stadards set pretty high. PM if you have any questions. As for the apt., shouldn't be too hard to locate one but don't subject yourself to the drive between BJC and DEN if you can avoid it. The speedpass is a good thing to have though, if that is the only place you can find employment. Good luck and keep us posted.

Bike21 hired me as an instructor at McAir and I instructed there for two years. I lived in an apartment 3 miles from the airport which was $550 a month. Great place to fly. Feel free to ask me any questions.

He lives!!! How are the little tikes doing?

Thank you all for the responses. At first I thought it would be a crazy idea to move over a thousand miles to get some more flight training. But the more I think about it, the more I think it might be a great idea. The only concern I have is being able to find a part time job to help pay the bills while I am training. I have three years of line service/customer service experience under my belt at a Cessna Pilot Center in the Seattle area. I am graduating with an accounting degree but really do not want to work in that field. Any good local job suggestions in the KBJC or KDEN area? I am quite excited as to the possibility of moving to Denver. Just want to make sure it is economically feasible first. Thanks!

How much do you make instructing at McAir?

When I flew at Airwest and Journey's, the instructors made something like $35/hr and $29/hr, respectively. How much would you make at McAir? How much did you fly? I know it varies a lot between the summer and the winter. Was there much opportunity to instruct in a ME airplane?
Thanks a lot.
