I have tried looking online but have only found Embry Riddle.

Does anyone have advice on what kind of masters degree to get to help with a career in aviation?

Maybe a general MBA would be more relevant and cost effective?

Just looking for ideas...Thanks for any info.

Hey guys,

Normally I hate to piggyback on threads, but it wouldn't make sense because I have a similar question here.

I'm currently on AD in the AF as an enlisted dude. I've got some flight time, but I've realized that I'm not going to become a rated officer for various reasons that I will not discuss right now. I have about 2.5 years left on my enlistment that will put me at 10 years total active service. Before I punch out, I would like to finish grad school. I already have an MBA program lined up at NCU that is totally fundable by TA and is attainable online. My only problem is there are no aviation based programs there.

I understand the whole do not get an aviation degree if you are a pilot thing, but I really am not, save for the few hours that I have civilian. I do have a serious interest in aviation and the business aspect of it and I think I would do very well in ERAU's program. My main beef is that I'd have to dip into my GI Bill benefits to do that due to the cost.

Do you guys think that it is worth it?

Remember, I do not seek out to become a paid pilot of any sort. Please keep that in mind if you give any advice.

Thanks

University of Central Missouri - M. S. Aviation Safety. Geared towards accident investigation. Supposed to be a bunch of NTSB guys went here, but don't quote me on it.

P.S. Should be very affordable compared to ERAU and UND. Also right next door to Whiteman AFB, so very comfortable with working military folk.

If you goal is aviation management, you can't go wrong with the ERAU MBAA.

I'm on my capstone project with ERAU and though I hate ERAU, it's not a difficult program. I'm getting an MAS with emphasis in aeronautics. Granted it's what I do for a living so most of the classes have been right up my alley. IMO, ERAU is way overpriced for what you get but if you want an career in aviation, might be a good degree. I use the Post 9/11 GI Bill so I don't pay a dime but if I had to, not so sure I'd go ERAU.

I'm currently 3/4 of the way through the MS in Aviation at UND. I am happy with the program as it is very flexible. Classes are help live on campus, but are transmitted and recorded. If you are in Grand Forks, you can attend class live. If you are not in town, you can watch and participate in the lecture via video feed and mic. If you can't get to a computer at class time, you can always watch the recorded lecture at no penalty.

Something I'd look into would be programs that offer tuition waivers or assistanceships. I've been fortunate enough to be offered a GSA and GRA position, so I haven't had to pay tuition and I get paid an hourly wage for work I do for the department. These can be offered to off-campus students as well.

Good luck in your search. I've found my graduate work to be far more rewarding than undergrad!

Florida Tech - College of Aeronautics just released an online version of their Masters in Applied Aviation Safety. The new program is all online and a non thesis curriculum. I also know that they offer a similar all online Masters of Science in Aviation Human Factors. I know a few people who have done their tradition Aviation Saftey program on campus and liked it, I will be starting my Masters in Aviation Safety online in the fall.

Feel free to PM me if oyu want more information on the program, I can get you in contact with the Graduate Student director real easily.
