Man Says JetBlue Pilot Forced Him To Sit On Toilet

The FA likely took the jumpseat in order to allow this buddy pass rider to be accommodated on the flight. She certainly would of had priority rights to that last seat but did the nice thing by taking the jumpseat. In the world of non-revenue travel, buddy pass riders have consistently created the most problems as most are not likely to be airline employees or in the travel industry. They get confused thinking that their buddy pass entitles them to services offered to fare paying passengers. As most of you know, buddy pass riders are always at the bottom of the pass rider priority and they essentially get whatever is left over once every other non-rev has been accommodated. I recall a passenger giving my FAs a bad time on a Chicago flight years ago threatening to write them up for this and that. Come to find out it was a buddy pass rider and I took great pleasure in explaining to the guy the intricacies of how to behave on airplanes. Things like this will force airlines to put more pressure on employees to better explain to their buddy pass guests the rules and expectations of non-revenue travel. Flights are so full these days I don't even use my buddy passes anymore. I got tired of my buddy pass users calling me up from the airport saying "the flight is full and I didn't get on - what should I do?" Plan ahead and buy a ticket is my advice from now on.

I can't remember the last time we gave out a buddy pass. It's literally been years.

When we got paper passes, we'd shred them. It's just not worth it.

I was in Vegas on Dec 22. trying to get on the LAS-JFK red-eye. She starts talking to me and mentions she is on a buddy pass. An hour goes by and they announce a 2.5 hour delay because they cannot find the FO. My new found friend pops up from her chair and proceeds to berate the gate agent, asking how could anyone lose a pilot? The woman started to demand compensation for the delay, including meal vouchers and drink coupons. The gate agent very politely asks for her boarding pass to issue a meal voucher when she notices the pax is a SA9P.

The agents response was something like ####. When you start paying for your tickets, you can gladly start complaining. Until then, STFD.

I bet this story is BS. I wasnt aware that the CA or even an off duty jumpseating FA would have a clue as to was riding on a buddy pass and who wasnt.
Since when does a buddy pass rider have to report to the captain before a flight?

Gokhan Mutlu, of Manhattan's Inwood section, says in court papers the pilot told him to "go 'hang out' in the bathroom" about 90 minutes into the San Diego to New York flight because the flight attendant complained that the "jump seat" she was assigned was uncomfortable, the lawsuit said.

LMAO. Sorry but the metal pic of the cockpit door flying open and the captain leaning out and pointing to the man and saying "you, go hang out in the bathroom"
Anyone else getting this?

yup, the FA's know whose on buddy and who isn't. they get it as part of their "lists". Pass riders don't have to report to the captain, just jumpseaters

Well if it is true then it is inexcusable to have the guy sit on the toilet no matter who he is. The FA made the choice to sit on the JS. Next time she can take her seat and leave the guy behind but don't make him sit in the lav.

It reminds me of "A Bronx Tale" when they are playing craps in the basement and Sonny makes everyone go stand in the bathroom.

Or back here in reality land, I'm guessing the story is BS.

We've all flown with some strange captains, but I can't imagine a captain doing something like this.

I once took a F/A jumpseat leaving RNO after the air races. There was one non-rev behind me who was going to get on if I took a jumpseat instead of a pax seat.

Gee, let me think, I can take a middle seat 3/4 of the way to the back of the plane, fight for overhead space, sit there squished between two probably large people and be miserable the entire way back to ORD. OR, I can sit in the nice spacious aft galley of that brand new 737, have all the legroom in the world, nobody elbow-to-elbow with me, and not be asked a bazillion questions about being a F/A........

I'll take the jumpseat for $500 Alex!

The other non-rev thanked me up one side and down the other for doing that "for him". I tried to tell him I really much preferred the jumpseat to where he was going to have to spend the next few hours, but I don't think he believed me. I guess it was win-win for both of us..... He got home and I got to be comfortable!

BTW it is highly illegal for anyone to occupy the lav for takeoff, landing, or taxi. The article doesn't specifically mention when in the flight this occurred, but I will but a whole wad of money that this is a LOT like the guy who claimed AA denied O2 to his family member. Let's have a little faith in a fellow pilot here.......

I remember asking you for one so that someone could head down to go to her father's funeral.

And you asked me, Tony, do you like her?

I said of course I do, otherwise I wouldn't be asking you.

And you said, then don't torture her more. Buddy passes are the last thing you want to give her. She doesn't need the stress after losing her father.

Okay let me play devil's advocate, give the guy the bennefit of the doubt, and assume it is true that the FA refused to stay in the jumpseat, and the captain allowed her to kick the guy out of his seat. Why not let him sit in the jumpseat? Before anyone says anything about it being illegal for him to occupy a jumpseat, consider how legal it is for him to sit in the lav instead.

Supposedly CAL went to a minimum $105 each way on their buddy passes recently. You might as well buy a ticket on SWA at those prices. Personally I expect buddy passes to go away in the near future.

Well considering how the flight benefits keep dwindling lately, I can't put that pass them.

It's hard enough to get anywhere as an employee these days let alone on a buddy pass. Like many have said, I never give them away...it's more trouble than it's worth.
