After the commercial plays,
a news story comes up about how a guy was left behind on a CRJ after he fell asleep.

But the most stupid thing.....he was seated in the exit row to start......and "didnt know/couldnt figure out how to open the doors" .......

So I take it that he CANT READ THE SAFETY CARD- therefore couldnt figure out how to open any door on the CRJ100/200.

And he mentions that he sits down in the cockpit, and raids the galley, etc.... during his time on the plane.

What an idiot.....
 
I wouldn't say he's a freaking idiot.

Its happened before to a Comair flight at BOS. The guy that was left behind was a returning soldier on a BWI-BOS ron flight.

Yet the fact that he was seated in an exit row.....must have & proves so in the interview that he can understand english......and somehow cant figure out how to read the card he was briefed to review (granted i know alot of people dont read the safety card)......but the fact that he knew about this responsibly and still couldn’t read enough in the cabin or card to get out quicker…it just proves he might be the brightest crayon in the box.

Now a foreigner with language difficulties….I can see how it would be more difficult for them and have an excuse…. But this guy, or the one you mentioned??????
 
That guy was no idiot. He got up, saw the "Pull latch to open door" sign and decided that "Hey if I play dumb and pretend I got 'locked' in, I will get a free airplane ticket." That's how it happened. Seriously, a big latch with a "pull here" sign; nobody's that dumb.
 
What the heck? So the crew shut down the aircraft for the night without the flight attendant at least strolling thru the cabin?
 
The reporter says "he finally figured out how to open the door" Mind you thats the media saying that to sensationalize that. stuff like that makes good news. I don't blame the guy sitting in row 8 who was briefed on the row 8 door, not knowing how to open the door infront of row one.

Both are Completely the fault of the FA, and completely inexcusable. walk down 13 rows, check the lav, nobody still on the airplane.

Apparently so. The airplane returned after a "pressurization problem", pax deplained.....this guy continues to sleep.....and is left there.

Doesn't this seem so strange? I can't believe a passenger wouldn't notice someone sleeping next to them. So weird.

Thats the stupid thing about this story.....the main cabin door is the EASIEST DOOR to open on the RJ.

Overwing exit takes the handle pull, pull door towards you, take door off, and throw/move door.

Main cabin door.......PULL HANDLE UP, PUSH DOOR OUT.

yeah, i've sat in exit rows a bunch. I've never been specifically briefed on the operation of the door. The FA from CLE to LAS made sure I was 15 though.

I blame the confusion of this guy on the media. The guy saw the mx log up front, grabbed a coke and got out of the airplane. Thats the story I see.
 
He can fall asleep on a plane and knows how to find the cockpit. I'm surprised they didn't offer him a job.
 
Where does the crew keep their bags? How did not only the FA miss him, but the 2 pilots as well, while they went to retrieve their bags?

You cant blame the guy. We are all in this industry so its easy to say "what an idiot, the main cabin door is so easy to open!" When the door is closed all you see is a small red knob on the side. If i was a newbie, I wouldnt touch anything thats red. you guys are too hard on this guy.
 
There were days that I'd get off a European trip, non-rev home and I didn't realize that we had arrived in PHX and had begun deplaning until about midway through the deplaning process.

But then, on the 737-800, they have three flight attendants... One in front and two in back. Before the two in back exit the aircraft for the layover, they conduct a cabin sweep.

Perhaps the airline in question should think about conducting a cabin sweep before putting the aircraft to bed?
 
Usually in outstations not only does the FA assure the cabin is empty but the gate agent as well. Maybe we should start doing that after our post-flight walk-arounds when it's the last flight of the day.
 
Listening to the guy's statement, I'm not thinking there was any long period of time between wake-up and opening the door. He sat down in the cockpit, grabbed a drink, and opened the door. Like oldtownpilot, I'm thinking any thought of him not being able to open the door is media sensationalism.
