Maine Flying

I'm heading up to Maine early next week to check out a CFI job. Does anyone here have any experience flying/living in the area? How do/did you like it? Thanks in advance.

I use to go camping in Maine with one of my good friends and his family, its kind of fun. The portland (?) area where LLBean headquarters is and stuff is real nice with a lot of shops. Old Orchard Beach and that area is nice too.

I'm from Maine, born and raised. I've never flown in ME but I've been up in a few planes before I started flying. Maine is absolutley gorgeous, well depending on where you go. Where are you going in ME? The ME coast in the summer is a blast, Bar Harbor is awesome, Acadia National Park. Portland is a fun city, the old port is nice. Old Orchard is also nice. Pretty much anywhere on the coast is nice. If you get up north a little some of the lakes and mountains are great in the summer, Sebago Lake is a blast. The Saco river in the summer is tons of fun. If you want to know about flying you should ask "Acadia" he is frequently on this site and he is a CFI in Bar Harbor.. Hope that helps.

I've been to Maine a few times for a short vacation. It was all right, I didn't find much to do though. I enjoyed being near the beach, that's about all for me.

Good luck!

I live on Mount Desert Island and fly out of KBHB, which is about 2/3 of the way up the Maine coast.. How you will like the state depends on where in the state you will be and what your interests are. I have fun and make a side living as a sailing captain and a climbing guide so I’m in a perfect place. If you are a city dweller then Maine probably is not for you though Portland is a very nice small city.

Flying in Maine is no different then the rest of New England. Winter can be slow for hours since there is plenty of low IFR and ice to be had (you can mostly only fly on VFR days once the cold weather comes).

What area/airport are you looking at?

Also check your PM's. I left my contact info for you.
