ATLANTA (AP) - US Airways says maggots falling from an overhead bin from a container of spoiled meat forced a plane to return to the gate in Atlanta. US Airways spokesman Todd Lehmacher says a passenger brought the container onto the plane and passengers noticed the maggots on Monday on the flight bound for North Carolina.
The plane returned to the gate and passengers got off so crews could clean the overhead bin.
Lehmacher says the flight then continued on to Charlotte, where the plane was taken out of service and fumigated out of an "abundance of caution."

So the TSA will take your mouthwash, but will let a container of spoiled food with MAGGOTS through security?!

And who the hell brings a container of "food" full of maggots on a PLANE? Someone needs to be smacked upside the head to knock the stupid out.

The key word was Atlanta, "the south" not suprised what happened.
:yup:

When I first read the headline, I wondered whether it would be related to the Airline food safety thread, or the Southwest body parts thread.

Wellll gollay, I reckon I shouldn't try takin my catfish bait on the flyin machine no's more...dang ole people don't know how long it takes to get the bait just right for fishin...guess it ain't goin' with me no more.

N4L, you should try chewing some Imodium AD...you've got some serious diarrhea of the mouth (or keyboard) going on.

I figured "maggots" was some colloquialism that I didn't know about. Code word for kids or NetJets pilots or Canadians or something.

I thought this would be a continuing thread about the recent article in USA today on the in flight meals.

In some cultures spoiled food is perfectly acceptable. In Ethiopia they dont cook their meat and all share out of one pan with their hands. To each their own but in America this isnt accepted usually.

Personally, I interpreted it as though someone from some previous flight brought some meat onboard, forgot it, and then was subsequently overlooked by cleaning crews. Perhaps pushed into some corner, then a week later when John Q. Flyer went to cram his carry on up there it ruptured its container and TADA! MAGGOT FREEDOM!
