Lynx Aviation (Frontier Express)

A) They have LOWER payrates than Colgan does for the Q. They were mentioned NUMEROUS times on how we are 'in the middle' of pay for the Q.

B) They charge $65.00 dollars to apply which is nonrefundable

I say that too. That is just insane. If you are a pilot looking for a job it seems like everyone has their hand out for cash. 65 is more than FedEX. Who do they think they are?

Where are you guys reading about this $65 fee? I am yet to see it anywhere. Do they ask for a check to be sent after you send in the resume to the email addy?

Tim they are starting Lynx to whipsaw the Frontier guys. Simple as that. It starts with these Qs, then it goes up to an A318, etc...

You'd think Frontier "mainline" pilots would be more concerned with the Republic E-170's than propjobs.

I doubt Lynx would operate Airbii. Anyone know what Frontier's scope clause looks like?

No, I saw the contract... They are not using Lynx for anything but to feed mainline and lead to more growth for Frontier.

Everyone was worried about Lynx being used to undercut mainline and the pilots got scope against that.

The problem is, while everyone was worried about that, they forgot to limit the JetExpress operation that Republic is taking over from Horizon. By 2010 or something like that, Frontier Jetexpress will be allowed to have up to around 50 aircraft which will be operated by Republic or maybe even someone else by then. This is what the pilots should have been worried about and that is where the danger is. Those 170s can easily take over a mainline route and do it way cheaper with the lower paid help.

Lynx on the other hand is limited to 76 seat or less TP only. You can't just put a Lynx TP on a route that a mainline 319/20/18 flies. A Q400 just wont fly from DEN to DCA.

I think the pilots could have done way better with the contract but they could have done way worse too.

Horizon first year CA pay on the Q: $65/hr
Colgan first year CA pay on the Q: $53/hr
Lynx first year CA pay on the Q: $50/hr

Horizon first year FO pay on the Q: $29/hr
Colgan first year FO pay on the Q: $21/hr
Lynx first year FO pay on the Q: $??/hr

Horizon mins: 1000/100
Colgan mins: 600/100
Lynx mins: really unrealistically high

You also have to consider how far your money goes in the bases you fly out of. The colgan Q400 base is EWR right? Lynx will be DEN, and Horizon is SEA and PDX I think.

It seems Lynx has a long way to go to catch up with Horizon. I think alot of things can and will change over the next 6 months though, at least I hope they do. Either way, pay going down sucks and just provokes other airlines to lower theirs.

My question is, how do we change it?

www.alpa.org

and that we ALL fight to make sure that bar is raised...

Doug or Kristie, we need a smily that somehow shows the bar being raised!

I don't see a lot of difference b/w Lynx and Compass over at NWA. People said Compass would just be a feed for NWA, but now NWA has announced an EXPANSION in the regional side and a slow phase out of the DC-9. Sounds like they're replacing the old mainline routes with regional routes. What if Frontier decided they could make more $$$ on a route that was serviced by an Airbus by throwing a Lynx Q400 on it at the expense of a possible order for a new Airbus? Would that still be "feeding mainline?"

Frontier's route map: http://www.frontierairlines.com/frontier/plan-book/routes-timetables/route-map.do

Well, the only destinations that mainline flies to that is within 600miles of DEN is MCI, SLC, and PHX. Omaha used to be a mainline city but has since been taken over by the 170 that Republic uses. OMA was usually pretty light anyway and was nearly always a 737-200/318 route when I was there.

I seriously doubt Lynx will serve any of the mainline cities because the distance is too far and those few closer cities are already doing well with the several Airbus flights that operate them now. From what they have said, Lynx will only be doing mountain cities, and stuff out on the plains of Kansas, Nebrasska, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. Maybe a few places in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Montana and Idaho too. Their official route map should come out soon though and from what I remember they are limiting it to within 500 or 600 miles from Denver.

I see what you guys are saying but I think the situation here is very different than other airline's out there. To me Republic or whoever is operating JetExpress looks like the biggest enemy here. Am I way off base here in my thinking?

I have talked to numerous DEN based YV Dash 8 pilots that are going over there as Captains. I guess Lynx is a step up from Mesa at least :-)

Hmmm, Mesa Dash 8 first year CA $38, 1st year FO $19... It seems Mesa is the bad guy of the industry again.

I guess that is who will be crewing the Qs at Lynx then.

Go Buffs!!!

Yeah, that is certainly a career move I would make if I were in their shoes. Just from what I know about Mesa and Frontier I would be shocked if working for Lynx wasn't quite a bit better in regards to pay and QOL. They'll proabably be flying into a lot of the same airports as well.

Man, last year was a tough one for the Buffs, but I'm counting on some serious improvement in year two.

Well here is the official ad for FOs, I guess it rules me out at 700/100...

Maybe they would be better off just hanging out near the Great Lakes and Mesa crew lounges at DIA. With the times they are looking for, I am not too sure they will find a lot of people jumping at that. Then again if Lakes tries to send a bunch of their pilots to some far away base in St Louis or Wisconsin I could see them jumping ship for Lynx if their employment contract just expired.

Oh well, I'm bumbed but what can you do? They were my number one choice with ExpressJet and Skywest a close second.

1500/500 and a 65 dollar app fee. YGTBSM. Good luck finding people to go to a non-union place to yank gear with that sort of time.

Those sound like Capts mins, not F/O. Anyhow, they might have some luck finding Key Lime guys who want to work for an airline in DEN.

Agree. $21/hr for those mins is a slap in the face. Hell, $21 for 1000/100 is pretty close to a slap in the face. I meet the mins for that (1500/500/500) and I wouldn't leave my about-to-get-a-raise job to go back to the bottom of a seniority list for the same pay I'm making now.
