Luggageworks Handle Problem

Been having a problem with my Luggageworks bag. Most people have a problem with handles on their bags getting stuck in the up position. I've got the exact opposite. It won't LOCK in the up position. Not that big a deal unless you're going down a ramp and your handle keeps trying to collapse on you.

I took the handle assembly out to see what's up, and I don't THINK the spring loaded squeeze trigger tabs are broken, but I can't really tell. There are some wear spots on the handle assembly right around where the tabs would be clicking into the groove. Can't tell if it's the wear on the handle itself or if the tabs are broken off. If they were broken, the pieces would have just fallen out the bottom months ago.

Anyone else had this issue before? I would just take it in to either Crew Outfitters or Stop Over Store to get it checked out, but I don't think there are any anywhere where I'll be for quite a while....

Mine was getting sticky where I'd have the handle down most of the way and a few inches from the end it would stop and I'd have to shove it pretty good and force it down.

There is a bearing inside that was getting worn down, and another plastic piece that the guy at the Stopover Store also replaced. I watched him do it and even though it took him about five minutes, I don't think I would have figured it out at all. At one point he also had to saw a piece off to replace it, with a reciprocating powersaw.

So that won't help you much, but I wouldn't feel bad if you can't find a solution on your own!

Sort of what Nick just said. I think of myself as somewhat of mechanically proficient but I had no clue how they came up with that contraption. Had the same problem as you with my handle just wanting to unlock and slide down all the time. It started as soon as I joined Bluejuice so I had to wait a year to get it replaced with my uniform expense account. Good luck with that one man.

Sent an e-mail to Larry at the Stop Over Store in MSP. He's already figured out what the problem is. The triggers need to be adjusted. He just e-mailed me instructions on how to adjust them using the tension rod and spring. We'll see how it goes.

Will you please fwd me the info? I've had the same issue since a year after I bought the bag in 2005

Basically, the triggers need to be adjusted. First, take the handle off by removing the four screws on the metal covers where the handle drops into the bag. It should just come right out after that. Pull the lining out of the inside by pulling the velcro out on the bottom. That'll give you access to the triggers on the top. Loosen the screw next to the spring, but DON'T TAKE IT OUT. Then you can wiggle to pin to the extend how far the screw goes into the handle shaft. It should be about 1/8". Tighten the screw back and test it. Drop the handle back in and squeeze the triggers to let it drop. When you pull it up, they should click in and the handle shouldn't go up or down. If it DOES move, then re-adjust the pins underneath as necessary. If it looks good, tighten the four screws back to lock the handle back in, and you're done.
