Luckiest guy on allegiant flight 526

So, on my flight yesterday from TUS to DFW (AA 1386) Capitaine Phil let me sit in the S80 Right seat for about 15 min while the plane loaded. I took the CA and FO brownies because they were having a poor day: delays, etc. And, how nice was that?? Capitaine Phil answered a lot of questions I had and was very nice to show me the Flight Deck. Just more stuff to keep the excitement and drive alive!

Goin to see Frog_Flyer eh? ;) :sarcasm:

Great stories everybody! I remember a bunch from my past too. When I was around 10 my mom would drive me down to the local airport every weekend to watch planes. One woman pilot on a Beech 400 stopped us, invited us in the plane, showed me the cockpit, and spent a good 2 hours with us. She was super patient and before I left she gave me a few of her out-dated high-altitude charts which I still have next to my desk! Used them for all of my flight-sim flying these past 10 years. Forgot her name, but would love to meet her again in the future!

I was born deaf and had a ton of ear operations as a kid all the way up until when I was about 6 or 7. I remember at one Hospital in Houston my mom somehow got the attention of the life-flight helicopter pilots and brought them to my bed. They talked with me for a while about flying and one of the pilots gave me an old Houston Life-Flight set of wings! Again, still have them on my desk as a good luck charm.

There was also a fantastic FO on a CO 737-500 in Houston who spent a ton of time talking with me in the cockpit afer a flight from LA. Told me tons of great flying stories, told me about the Cessna he owned at some small Houston airport, told me to keep pursuing my love of flying!

A lot of good people out here!

I remember when I was young visiting the cockpit of a DC-10 heading for Spain. To say I was in awe would be a BIG understatement. I recall looking back into the cavernous cabin and asking the captain how he was able to fly such a huge airplane. He said to me "Son, you just fly it from the cockpit forward and everything else follows."

I always look forward to inviting those interested to the cockpit. Sometimes it is a three year old girl with Dora in tow, and other times it is the 50 year old that would trade his or her job a hundred times over to sit in my seat. I always warn parents that visits to the cockpit by their children can be expensive as learning to fly is pricey, but worth it.

My favorite is when I can allow a youngster to occupy my seat and wear my hat. Mom or Dad takes a picture or two and I smile knowing that it will end up in somebody' special scrapbook. "The day I was the captain" it will read.

Flying airplanes is such a wonderful thing!

I remember as a kid in NZ getting to go up to the cockpit of a 747 mid flight (dad was air NZ's no 1 frequent flyer...back in the days when that actually meant something).

Anyway, the best experience was actually just recently. I was waiting to board a Qantas Flight From Sydney to London and I was standing near the bridge with my carry on...which has an aopa sticker on it. I noticed that the flight crew were standing nearby aznd talking and pointing at me.

So eventually the captain comes over and starts chatting to me and asked if I was a pilot. So we chatted for about 10 mins on GA aircraft and how he really missed having the time to fly bug-smashers everywhere. So he asked me my name and thanked me for the chat and that was that.

Anyway, after about 20-30 mins we start boarding and I get up to the front where the lead FA is checking the boarding passes as you step on the plane. I hand her my pass and she says oh Mr ********* The captain would like to extend you the courtesy of a seat in first class!!!!!!

It was a fairly empty flight and they just happened to have some spare seats in first. I loved every min of it...especially on a long flight like that one is!

God Bless that Captain and his PIC authority :)

Cheers
