Anyone who has done training in the DFW area has probably been to that airport.
Two men, possibly a flight instructor and a student, died Saturday when their plane crashed in a field outside Waxahachie.
They took off from Dallas Executive Airport in a Tecnam P-2002 S, which is a two-seat, single-engine airplane. They crashed shortly before noon about three miles northeast of Mid-Way Regional Airport, which is between Waxahachie and Midlothian.
The men's names had not been released Saturday afternoon, but Federal Aviation Administration Spokesman Lynn Lunsford said, "From what we gather, there was a flight instructor and a student on board."
Mid-Way Regional Airport is frequently used by pilots who want to practice takeoffs and landings. There is no control tower, and it's unclear if any other aircraft were in the area. The men did not file a flight plan, but that's not unusual for instruction flights, Lunsford said.
