LR-31 trip

I don’t have the book in front of me but,

1,000 trip

Normal cruise .77 = 422 kts TAS on 1200 ibs per hour
Long Range .73 = 408 kts TAS on 800 ibs per hour

Trip time Normal cruise 2h 21 min
Long range 2h 27 min

Trip Fuel Normal cruise 2,832 ibs
Long Range 1,960 ibs

To save 6 minuets you have to burn 872 more ibs of fuel
Devide that by 6.75 ibs per gallon and you get 129 gallons
Multiply that my $6 per gallon and you get $775 to save 6 minuets, like I said it is not worth so much money to save so little time.

We're flying .76 now. I flight plan 432 KTAS and it usually fluctuates between .75 and .76. Saves a tremendous amount of fuel vs. 795 ITT everywhere we go.

One thing to also remember we make up ALOT of that fuel in our descents and our direct routing at night. You'll save in the neighborhood of 300-400lbs with a 1.5:1 decent vs. a 3:1 decent. If we aren't on a time critical leg by all means I pull it back and save some gas. The leg I burn the most fuel: TEB-BOS We're restricted to FL210 and we're 800ITT or 350KIAS the whole way. Burn about 1100lbs on that leg for about a 200 mile trip. But our deadline gives us about 5 minutes delay time. Most of that is burned up waiting for our release at the end of the runway at the 'hole.

Mikec -- I believe you fly a 35 no? The 31a is much less flexible due to the fact that it only holds 4100 lbs of fuel. That's about 2.5 hours and you need to be looking for a place to land -- and that is if no alternate is required!!!

In the winter when widespread IFR exists and you can't find an alternate, it can be challenging to get anywhere.
