Love Field Security

While trying to jumpseat home from Dallas this morning I got a rude awakening when they wouldn't let me through security with my Crew ID and Passport. I explained I didn't have a boarding pass because I was going to list for the jumpseat but the TSA person said they were just told of the new policy today (just my luck) that you had to work for an airline that flies out of DAL or have a DAL SIDA badge to get through. On my way to the SWA counter I ran into another TSA employee who appeared to be some sort of supervisor and he confirmed it was the new policy but didn't know if it was nationwide or just at DAL. It was easy enough to explain to the SWA ticket agent what happened and she got me a boarding pass to get through security with no problems, I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this new policy at other airports?...It sucks! It was not something I wanted to deal with at 6:30 this morning but I know these people don't make the rules and are just doing their jobs. Those jumpseating from DAL who aren't from SWA, Eagle, or Xjet beware.

On a positive note, SWA is awesome to jumpseat on, they always have the most friendly staff from ticket agents to pilots!

Well thats gonna suck for me. They usually wave me right through there. I usually always jump in uniform though. SWA people are usually very friendly and accomadating.:) I've never not made a flight with them.(knock on wood).

This has been the official policy nationwide for over a year now. Of course, it varies whether they enforce it or not. I've just made it a practice to get a boarding pass before going through security at a terminal that my airline (or parent carrier) doesn't serve.

Then of course, there is Vegas, where if your carrier DOES serve that terminal but not in uniform you have to get a boarding pass, but you don't need a boarding pass if your carrier does not serve that terminal.

Crewpass. That's all I've got to say.

Easy fix. Call 1-866-SWA-PLAY and follow the prompts to list yourself. Then go to southwest.com and enter your record locator from the phone system and print a nifty little 'security document'. It's that easy!

In Newark, I had to get a gate pass to get into the United pod even when in uniform. The front-line non-TSA security wouldn't let me through. It seems like the policy is catching on a lot of places I go. It's best to arrive early and get a gate pass from the ticket counter, especially when out of uniform and/or your airline doesn't serve the airport or specific terminal.

I thought it's been that way since at least 2005. For the larger airlines/regionals it's not a big deal, but for the smaller commuters, they're always looking at your badge and you get the response, "I've never heard of that airline before."

Actually, I was lucky at one time and the TSA guy came out and flipped my badge over and on the back I kept all my non-rev travel cards and he saw the "Delta" and Delta logo on the card and said okay and waved me through...

The only place that I really catch hell is OAK. Those TSA agents won't budge for me. I always have to go get a security document. The funny part is that after I show them the document and my badge, I still get to skip the line. I really hate airport terminals. FBO's are way better. There's no TSA, plus there's free cookies and popcorn for everyone.:D

Wow, I just went through over at DFW no problem. And I jumpseat all the time at different airports and never had a problem getting through. I've been asked if I have a boarding pass and I say I'm jumpseating, and they say ok. When I was in BUR jumping on US, the ticket agent said since my airline doesn't serve here, I'd have to get a boarding pass. But I went to security with my pass in my pocket, and they let me through. I hope this doesn't catch on. I don't want to go to the ticket counter, especially if its out of the way, and the line in long.

Santa Barbara won't let you through without a boarding pass and now apparently certain checkpoints at ORD won't let you through if you are jumpseating. For instance, United (Express) guys trying to jumpseat on American. However as woodreau said, flip that badge over and show them a different airline partner and you might get lucky. Delta usually works for us in the American terminal at ORD.
