Lots of R22s

I was driving on the freeway this weekend and saw a whole fleet of R22s in a single file line heading towards KRNO (Reno/Tahoe Intl). There must have been 5-6 of them, blue/white. It was a pretty cool sight. A lot of the drivers on the highway were distracted as they passed overhead at about 1,000 agl.

I wonder why they were all flying together and at the same time? A delivery or ferry flight perhaps? Or do they just ship those since they are so small?

That was a helicopter 'dual cross-country'. One instructor in the lead ship, and all his students stragglin' along behind in a gaggle.

True story.

Around Ft. Wolters, Texas, during the late 60's/early 70's, a gaggle of TH-55's goin' off on their 'solo-cross-countries'...

Looks like it may have been Silver State. For some reason they wanted to get all of their helicopters in Vegas for a picture. They have about 230 Robinsons.

The whole Silver State co is ???. They do not have a good reputation in the industry. Yet students keep giving them money and they keep taking it.

230???? Geeeeeez! That has to make them the largest flight school in the country! I''ve been reading about them over at verticalreference.com and they sound like a pretty shady place.

I have seen the same things. I do not have any first hand knowledge of their ops so who really knows. I do know that my wife worked with a guy that finished and got a job with them in Fl. I do think though people need to use caution when a school asks for all the money up front.

That explains why so many R22s in Vegas the last couple of weeks. There was a flight of 5 that were heading north and stopped in SGU for gas last week

Sounds about like a year supply to me with all the crashes

I have seen some of their wrench staff firsthand and I would not get in anything they have signed off on anymore. One clutch incident is enough.
