Logbook

The New Guy
I'd like to transition from my small basic logbook to a larger (professional) paper logbook. The issue I have is that my small book is not full yet. Would there be any issues with job interviews down the road if I stop mid-logbook and transition? The only reason I need to do this is for the extra room logging my multi & commercial training. Has anyone else done this?

Just draw a line diagonally across after the last page you logged on in the old book and simply put a note on it. "Balances Transferred to Log 2"

Then on the first line of the next logbook bring the totals in on line one and in the remarks put "balanced transferred from Log #1" and leave the balance forward line at the bottom blank. You can also just bring the forward totals in the balance forward line as well.

Many ways to skin that cat

Second that. Or do both, I've run into quite a few people at my flight school that believe you should keep an electronic log as well as a paper one for redundancy.

I did the same when I first started an electronic log, once I filled my second log book, I stopped. I even have a brand new jepp pro log book with nothing in it. Now I just backup my log book and save it to a drop box should my laptop die.

Now to the OP, I would do both till your done thru CFI, or till your that first book is filled. It will be a nice place to keep your endorsements and easy to show for checkrides, but beyond that electronic is all you really need, and paper if you want.

I even scanned all my endorsements, organized them by checkride and had them printed with my e-log when I had interviews, easy!

I did the same for a while (a long while; I've been using an eLog since the days of DOS :)). Four years ago I stopped using it for everything other than items requiring someone else's signature (flight reviews, IPCs, dual received, etc). As people get more comfortable with signing a tablet or phone, I'll probably stop that as well.

Of course, I don't really count since I'm not dealing with airline or charter operators and potential employers.

Since we are on this topic, I've had a few interviews recently. I have the Prosoft Binder.

http://prosoftbinders.com/pilot-log-binder-1.aspx

The binder clip is NOT the same spacing as a standard 3 ring binder, Staples sells a mini 3 hole punch for this particular spacing.

I uploaded my logbook to staples.com I was able to select pastel green paper, and punched the holes myself, easy!
If you have an old Jepp chart hole puncher around, it will also work, although you will have a few extra holes.

After my logbook was stolen, yeah - was pretty glad I did that. I'm not even totally sure why I keep the paper one now.

Also, no one has ever cared since. And it has been a few years.

Who in there right mind steals a log book? I mean seriously what are you gonna do take it to the local pawn shop? :ooh:
