Logbook Software

Can anyone recommend a good logbook software program? I am currently a CFI and have not computerized my logbook yet.

I am looking for a program that is easy to use, very flexible (will allow me to sort the database anyway I need to for airline applications, insurance profiles, 8710s, etc.) I would also like to be able to export the data to other software programs like Excel.

If you know of a program that meets these requirements, please let me know. Please also let me know what you don't like about the program.

Thanks!

Someone a while back gave a really good link to a free software(internet based) program. I signed up, and forgot the damn URL LOL

I'd recommend LogbookPro. You can do to their website to download it and put up to 50 entries in it before you have to register.

It blows Excel and all of those free programs out of the water, in terms of capability, updates (free), support, and customization.

I'll second the LogbookPro recommendation. I use it in conjunction with the Airline Pilot's Daily Logbook. I can import my trips into my PocketPC. Each flight I enter the out/in times along with IFR, night, etc. When I get home I run the sync program and it goes right into LogbookPro.

It's got some real good features- I've only begun to use these. It'll track your currencies, medicals, etc. There's also a great analyzer that'll produce reports about every phase of flight.

When you guys get these electronic log books, do you go back and enter EVERYTHING, or just start off with your current total?

I've had a good Excel based logbook for about a year now, and I have yet to get all my information in. I have about 200 hours in it and still another 400 more to go... so I've given up on it and just been keeping the old paper one...

Ha!

When I first bought LogbookPro I had all intentions of entering every single flight since day one! I got about 500 hours (at the time with over 3000 to go) into it and my motivation kind of fizzled. There are still some gaps between the electronic version and my paper log. I enter one-line monthly totals in my paper log book and use those numbers as my "official" times. Some day I'll either continue entering everything or just do a total somewhere to get the two to match. What I really wanted was to enter it all in the electronic logbook so I could pull up specific aircraft type reports, like Turbine ME PIC, etc.

I just purchased SafeLog from www.dauntless-soft.com. It's $39 as I recall. I didn't pick up on the fact that you could try out LogbookPro from their website as another poster mentioned. What drove me to SafeLog was the fact that it appeared to be (and has since proven to be) flexible enough to track pretty much whatever you want. I've added columns for AMEL Night PIC, for example. No paper logbook really supports the 8710-1 nor airline employment applications. SafeLog, like LogbookPro will print out a completed 8710-1 for you. The main reason I chose this program was to have the flexibility of tracking ASEL, ASES, AMEL, Helicopter, and Airship time. LogbookPro may do that, but I couldn't tell from the website. SafeLog does what I want though.

Just as another poster mentioned, I got about two pages into my first of four logbooks before I lost interest. I'm very happy with the program, just need to sit down to regularly update it. I figure I'll do it over several months (Plan B), not one weekend (Plan A), fully open to the reality of some Plan C.

Too much information? Sorry.

Thanks for the great info. I will check out those programs.
