Logbook Question

So I got the Jeppesen Professional Pilot logbook the other day. It has a few blank columns to add in different types of times (ex. complex/ hp/ turbo prop/ jet)

What do you guys use?

These are the colums...

Date/ Aircraft Make and Model/ Aircraft Ident/ From/ To/ Duration/ ASEL/ ASES/ AMEL/ BLANK/ Rotor/ Glider/ Blank/ Blank/ Day lndgs/ Night Lndgs/ Night/ Actual/ Simulated/ Approaches/ Flight Sim/ XC/ Solo/ PIC/ SIC/ Dual received/ Dual Given

I added "turbojet" (used to have a turboprop column but haven't flown one of those in 6 or 7 years), and "61 PIC".

Now with the turbojet....do airlines or anyone else for that matter if I were to combine Turboprop and Turbine?

I would think "turbine" would be fine for all. However, if you have available blank columns and want to separate them, that can be done too. It would simply be the difference of (if you were ever asked to), picking jet and turboprop time out separately from one column, or having them in two separate columns and the info there. Either can be done. Its just personal taste.

It's your logbook. Organize it as you like and however works for you.

I agree. Which is why I say that if you have the available columns, which it seems you do, then breaking out turboprop from turbojet certainly wouldn't hurt.

Tailwheel and turbine. There's no need to decide until you start flying something which justifies its own column though!

My logbook, when it comes to turbojet, has weird columns like "3 or more jet MEL" and "Jet SEL", as well as others like "Nav", "WSO", etc. Good thing is that these are stickers on a pad that are the same color as the log pages, and you simply stick them to the top of the particular column and voila, it looks nice and neat.

I guess my priority should be to keep it organized and looking neat. After all, this is what I'll most likely bring to interviews right?

Yes. Plus, a nice neat logbook is a point of professional pride, IMHO. Even if a mistake is made, there are ways to neatly correct them, such as lining through the error and writing the correction there; versus doing anything like using whiteout, greenout, etc. Not good to do the latter.

I updated it after every flight when I was taking lessons. I'd fill it out and my instructor would sign it during the lesson debrief. Some instructors preferred to fill it out themselves. When I was instructing I'd usually do it every day because there was nothing else to do around the office while I was waiting for potential students. While flying for a regional I'd do it once a week. Now I update it once every 2-4 weeks. I made the switch to electronic logbooks after I got my ATP though. No one has asked to see it since then, including "airline" interviews and additional type ratings.

I try to do it each day if possible, or at least weekly. Only so that I don't get behind and forget details of a flight if I happen to lose my mission card that has info other than just the total time, ie- night or IMC time, instrument approach types and locations, etc.
