Logbook falling apart

I realize this is probably the wrong section but I thought CFI's might have a better perspective on this. My logbook binding is coming apart and its getting to the point where pages are starting to get loose and strings are showing. Should I finish off my current page then switch to a new logbook? or should I continue using it? Thanks!

Just get it re-bound. Mine is showing its age after 21 years, I plan on having it re-bound before interviewing with it.

I gott ask - is this Reason #11 to not carry your logbook around with you or (a) are you a student, sport or recreational pilot who has to or (b) is it falling apart while sitting on your desk at home?

Ive been carrying it around constantly in my flight bag. I have a private - instrument working on Commercial and Mulit.

Go to a bookstore to find a place to fix the binding.

Then take it home and put it into a safe. There is no requirement to carry it with you after you get your private.

I spoke with some folks at the local office stores, and they told me that it would be very difficult to re-bound my logbook. The only thing that they could do is make it in to a "ringed" type of binding. No thanks.
I just got some hot glue and went to town. It looks great now. Its still not as strong as it once was, but its better than nothing.

Nononoo....not the type of rebinding I was talking about. Don't go to an office store, those people are clueless. I'm talking book binding, they're talking document binding. I'm talking about getting it rebound at a book bindery, the sort of places that do doctoral dissertations, etc. They can take the guts out of your logbook and put it into a brand new hardbound cover, good as new.

I think there was someone on here a little while ago who said that they have to cut off part of the pages when they re-bind a book. Not sure if there's a way around it, but I'd check into that. My binding got crushed a while ago, so I used a strip of clear shipping tape that fixed it up nice...sort of.

Go to the local library, they will be the best source for local re-binding info. Many will have someone on staff that can do it.

Oh, well dang!!! I wish I would have known that :banghead:
So far the hot glue has been working well. If it ends up failing again, I'll take your advise.

Note to self... from now on, leave logbook at HOME!!!!

yeah, but if you are still a student receiving training that makes it difficult for the instructor to sign it
