Re: little diamonds doing touch and go\'s........

If they were the 2 seat Eclipse’s then they are a blast to fly! I got checked out about a month ago and really like flying that little plane. Compared to the Piper Warrior’s that I did my primary training in the Eclipse is a lot more responsive and the view outside it much better than you get in Piper’s or Cessna’s. As for your question on how the seem to float…..as long as you are able to fly the numbers you will not float. If you are fast and don’t get slowed down in time then you will float for awhile waiting for the speed to bleed off. Once you figure that out that it’s a real easy plane to land in my opinion! I like the feel of the control stick much better than the yokes in Piper’s and Cessna’s as well.

The Diamonds really do float if you are not flying the recommended speeds (as mentioned in a previous post). They were modeled after a glider therefore glide like one when power is at idle. The glide ratio is 11:1....outstanding!!! A combination of the light weight, composite contruction and low drag components, the airplanes preform better than any other trainer I have flown in.

Approach on Final at 62 (actual number)...don't go above 65
or you will glide and work it all the way down.

I usually try for 85 on downwind, 75 on base, then 65 on final. Once I'm on short final then I'll start slowing it up to 60. I like to cross the fence at around 60. If I can nail 60 over the fence my landings usually turn out pretty good. If I'm at 65 or 70 over the fence like I do in the Warrior then I get to take the scenic tour of the airport as I float past all the convenient turn offs! Once I figured out the speeds the plane is a blast to fly and I can land it pretty consistently on my mark.
