Line Checks

Hello all,

So suffice it to say I had an issue on my first line check a few months ago and had to do some retraining. I retook the check and was good to go. The mistake I made was all mine and can explain what went wrong in future interviews if needed.

My question is; are line checks and PCs reported outside of companies? Is this something that can be detrimental later in my career? I have not had any previous failures of anything prior to this.

Thanks for any insight. I am new to posting on the site and I did a quick search but came up empty on this topic.

Thanks again.

I think it would show up in a PRIA...that being said you haven't had any other previous failures so I imagine most resonable people would see it as an anamoly. One or two failed rides from private through to your proffessional career shouldn't raise too many red flags (IMO).

It depends on your company's retraining and whether you were dequalified or the check was "unsatisfactory.". At my previous operation, dequals were NOT recorded (the additional training is, but never said what the training was for so it wasn't a big deal). UnSats, on the other hand, were recorded and require an additional PC to requalify. I would check with your company's lead check airman and records department to get a firm answer.

Regardless, I don't think it will pose a giant hurdle. Good luck!

Yes it was a 121 IOE line check. Not sure on the terminology that they used on the paper work but Ill try internally and see what comes up.

So was it IOE or a line check. Because I don't know any 121 airline that gives FOs line checks only CA.

Hmmm... I had only heard it referenced as a line check but can't find anything saying that now that you mentioned it. It was IOE

EGL doesn't have a pilot monitoring program? After CJC3407, I was under the assumption that all airlines needed a program to monitor new crewmembers via linechecks (among other criteria). We conducted four linechecks a year on new FOs.

Did they send you back to the sim or did your IOE just get extended another trip?

No clue I was off probation by 3407. Now just because the FO is not getting the line check doesn't mean the check pilot can't pull his quals if he is unsafe.

I don't know about you guys but the two times I've done IOE it ended with a line check on one of the last few legs. The check airman will evaluate you for a few days during the first part of IOE and then say "okay, this next leg(s) is your line check". Once you are signed off to take the line check, IOE is technically over I think. After that, you either pass or fail the line check; as far as I know the rules for the line check are the same as what regular pilots get annually on the line.

This.

We get line checks often at PSA. We get to go to sim every 6 months too. Both can be stressful but the benefits outweight the negatives.

At PSA they are not at risk PCs, right? Currently all Colgan PCs for CAs and FOs are at risk and required every 6 months for all pilots

FOs get a PC every 6 months?

It is one every two years here.

Every 2 years!? Damn. That seems like too long of a time to go without having a V1 cut or something of similar seriousness. Do you get some practice before your PC?

At Colgan it's show up, oral, PC, go home. No practice or anything.
