Lightspeed Siera vs DC Pro-X

I went and tried both on today, can't tell which would be better. Both were pretty comfortable. The Sierras are on sale at the local candy store for $600 and the Pro-Xs are $695. Does anyone have experience with both? I will be in a Caravan, then hopefully a 1900 and probably a 207 after.

I've had the Sierras. Spend more for the Zulus.

Currently have the DC Pros. Pretty good but some minor annoyances/worse sound for music than lightspeed in a piston cockpit. They're okay in a 207, but it's a loud plane and it's pushing the limit of them, and if the batteries die your head may explode (really sucks). They're probably great in a caravan or 1900 though.

my 2¢ from my experience. I recently compare the Lightpeed, Pro-X and Bose. After much debate, research, consideration, demo and asking other folks what they like it came down to the Lightspeed and the Bose. But after all I went with the Bose A20 with the Bluetooth.

I've used the Pro X for two years now and love them. Best headset for jet cockpit. Never tried them with prop equipment

Zulu 2s saved my ears while instructing in the Citabrias and Twin Stars. Between them and the A20s you're going to get varied opinions. Here it is boiled down. A20s are SLIGHTLY quieter, but Zulu 2s are more comfortable to wear. I attribute the uncomfortabillity of the A20s to the clamp style fitting they use to squeeze the ear pieces to your head. Some people though enjoy how the A20 fits and it makes the A20 a real winner. For me comfortabillity and still excellent noise cancelling made the Zulu 2s a no brainier for me. Zulu 2s have blue tooth as well. It's really great for listening to music or making a phone call if you end up NORDO.

Same. No DCs to compare but between Lightspeed PFX and Bose A20; they were identical in a Metro. The Bose falls on it's face if the ear cups get un-sealed in the Brasilia(one drawback to having a cut chin-line I guess..), but ultimately, comfort won and Bose was the best for my tiny head and tiny ears. Lightspeed is best for noise cancelling if your plane is tremendously loud particularly in the low frequency range IMO. The leg lengths I fly, comfort was more of a priority, with ANR. Your head and motivation may vary... :)

That's interesting because the PFX is a LOT quieter in both the BE20 and PA20. The A20 is pretty much last gen compared to the PFX. Bose has to step up the ANR to compete IMO.

So, when I wear a pair of Zulu's (1 or 2) and turn my head more than 45 degrees, the bottom of the ear cup will separate slightly from below my ear and let in noise. This brings not only the annoying noise but the "feedback" associated with the noise canceling. I could never buy a pair because of this, and I realize this gripe is VERY specific to my (apparently) oddly shaped head, but I would hate for somebody with an equally odd head (possible?) to spend the money, then find out. If you're trying them on in the store, you might not realize its happening. I was very excited to borrow a pair and thought they were the greatest thing ever until the first time I had traffic at 8 o'clock. Check it out...
Of course, YMMV...

I've had that feedback recently too. I sent them in for service. The ANR was out of balance. No charge for the service.

Indeed it is, I thought the Bose was more comfortable for me though so I bought them for that reason alone. You remember how screechy Garretts are right? I didn't notice much of a difference in the Metro. The Bose gets kind of pissy in the Brasilia though. It doesn't seem to like low frequencies. I don't remember if the 99(does the king air make a similar noise inside?) has a bassier noise to it or noy.

The 99 is a lot louder than the KA200. Probably all of the KA's for that matter.

I use Pro-X in my Stinson, and once I figured out how to wear them properly, they work great. (I'm used to having the head band in a different spot on my head from the X-11's)
They are super light weight and the battery lasts a long time.
The few jets I've jumpseated or flown, they are super quiet.
Another huge perk is the small size. I'm able to fit them in my pilot purse, and have room for my ipad.

I should have saved my $$$, since most people go topless in the bus.

I don't get this. Jets are a lot quieter than anything with props but they're not so quiet that long term exposure isn't going to cause damage. Not to meantion the auditory fatigue reduction.

Buy used Zulu 2's.

Thank me later.

What is the advantage of Zulu 2s over the Sierras? I used Zulus until recently and they were great, but I tried Sierras and really couldn't tell the difference. Yes, the Sierras are made of plastic but if anything the microphone boom is better and the ANR is the same.

I almost got the Pro-X for my current job but decided I didn't like things sitting on my ears for long periods of time.
