Light gun and MFT really that hard??

Hey all. I'm currently a flight dispatcher for a US based regional carrier but have been considering finally taking the dive into financial hardship and chasing my dream. The only thing that is holding me back is my color deficiency.

I scheduled an appointment with the local School of Optometry here and had them throw every colorblindness test at me. They made sure to use some "special lamp" for the correct illumanecense (spelling?) on the plates and gave me the Farnsworth. Overall I did okay, and was able to pass a couple of the acceptable tests with little effort.

Afterwards, I drove over the the local muni and called up the tower and had them shoot the gun at me about 12-15 times. Once I saw all three of them they were simple to decipher. And the great part is the gun doesn't have variations like the Farnworth Latern with red lights that look almost pink and green lights that look almost yellow!

My question is, is the light gun test and MFT really all that hard to pass? And I might be misinformed, but don't we have the option to request a second try if failed the first time before it becomes permanent, or was that with the older regulations?

My last question is, if I pass the light gun and MFT, then am I set for any medical class?

By the way, I share the same frustrations with the rest of the community with these new rules. How fair is it really for those who took the FALANT or light gun in the past and got their LOE with ease to us just beginning the journey and having to jump through eighteen thousand more loop holes when it comes to this color blind thing? I should have taken care of this before last November!:banghead:

You get one try!!! If you fail, you have a permanent restriction and cannot use an alternate test at the AME's office.

If you pass the light gun and MFT, you are set for life for all classes.
