Level 10

That bar is not going to do well in GFK! Dress code (collared shirt, no shorts, no hats...) and expensive drinks are not going to do well in GFK. You can get a Bud Light for $6 at Level 10 or for $2 at Gillys...hmmmmm. The atmosphere isnt great either. After youre done being harrassed by the staff with ties on you feel like the biggest tool bag in there and just want to leave. Hmmm...I think I hear Bonzers calling my name; now that is an awesome bar!

lol its that very attitude that explains WHY you do not have nice things in grand forks.

oh NO, an establishment where you have to look like youre going out for the night?!?!?! THE HORROR!!!

a bud light isnt six bucks either. six bucks gets you a wicked strong martini with about 3 shots of liquor in it.

yeah man bonzers, where you can go and wade thru peanut shells to get to the bar. AWESOME!

:yeahthat:

"Upscale" just doesn't seem to do so well around here. Although Sanders and toasted frog(is this place still nice?) seem to do O.K. Although, I was surprised to go into O'really's(sp?) and find a much older crowd down there and a much more relaxing environment. Compared to other times. So maybe level 10 will do alright.

actually yes. i really enjoy oreallys for exactly that. a little older crowd, a nicer facility, a good place to chill with buddies and not constantly hear WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO from just-turned-21-year-olds or bachelorette parties.

same goes for level 10. business is GREAT! in fact the last two nights we've reached capacity. the crowd is an ADULT crowd and they really enjoy a nice place to have a drink and socialize, not wade through peanut shells and have their clothes stick to the bar top. but yes you are right, if you insist on wearing shorts when you go out for the night, level 10 is not for you.

Nah, I enjoy wearing nice clothes on a consistent basis. Hell, I work on my car wearing button down shirts from express! :D

Totally agreed!

I stopped by Level 10 last night. I, surprisingly, felt I wasn't in Grand Forks which is a GOOD THING. The bar across the street was so full of nastiness. I'm so sick of people saying that the Level 10 patrons are snobs, blah blah blah. I've heard so many things about people complaining about the dress code at Level 10.

I will always be happy to take my business to a fine establishment (e.g. Sanders/Level 10). If I go out, it's not to rub on other nasty sweaty people wearing their Fighting Sioux night gowns (i.e. XXXL shirts). I don't mind paying a slightly higher price for a drink when you know lots of time has been invested in making the place look nice.

I'm so sorry if you weren't allowed to go in.
You should probably have a nice shirt and shoes anyway. How the hell can you go out to a nice club, bar, or lounge, looking like crap?

I agree that the attitude displayed above is what makes Grand Forks the crappy place it is. The mindset of not modernizing is what hurts this place.

LMAO!!! :rotfl:

An "upscale" bar has no business in a college town. Go to U of M dinky town. Nice bars are not cool. It's the dive s-holes that are the most fun. If you need to go to a bar like Level 10 so you don't feel like a serf you have some severe arrogance issues. I understand that you don't want to rub up against sweaty people. Thats cool, but this place sounds weak.

Ok, guy who wears express shirts washing his car. Riddle is calling they want you to transfer. What the hell man.

I think both an upscale bar and dive bar have BIG business being in a college town. College students come from all over and there's a large enough demographic to tap into for the opening of a successful modern upscale lounge. It's only obvious that the market was there for it and a business (Level 10) opened up because of it. Likewise, there is a demographic for those who want the sleezy bars like the one from the opening scene in the movie Fargo. This target market is rather large, so there is a lot of it.

Sleezy or swanky, there should be a place for everyone - it's just great to see something open up that expands the diversity of available venues in a small town such as Grand Forks.

In short, there is nothing wrong with people preferring a sweatshirt/sweatpants bar with $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon pitchers and obnoxiously-drunk frat boys from the the Olafson family farm - it's just asked that the town welcome entertainment for all, including those who want the dress-code enforced upscale modern lounge with $7 quality martinis and good-looking Californians from Newport Beach for viewing pleasure that extends beyond the night of the club. :D

Excellent summary. :D

Probably because you're from Montana (I am not saying this to offend you, just stating that there is only one Express store in Montana and chances are you won't see nor find one).

Ahhh..... yes that would probably be why I've never heard of it.

Yeah, they don't have one in GFK either, which really sucks. :( You have to go to Fargo if you want anything Express...and good luck w/ H&M, for that you need MSP.

H&M is like the Ikea of clothing (in the good sense). It's WELL priced but really really nice style. You can get a really nice shirt for $30.

I'll have to take pics of Level 10 for those who haven't seen it. I like it a lot. There's nothing to rip on the place. If it's not your type of place, it's ok to go across the street to the zoo.
