Letter of recommendation from chief instructor

SpiraMirabilis

Possible Subversive
I asked my boss to write me a LoR and he said no problem, but he's too busy but if I would write it he'd put it on the company letterhead and sign it. Thats kind of hard though. I want it to be good but I don't want to sound like I'm arrogant.

Does anyone have any ideas or similar sample letters?

That would kind of concern me if my chief flight instructor said he didn't have time to write a recommendation letter. Anybody can find 20 minutes to write something if they are familiar with your flying. I would recommend telling him that you just don't feel comfortable doing this, and if he could take a few minutes at his convenience, that you would great appreciate it. A letter of few words would be more effective than an essay anyway! No body is going to read a 2 page letter blabbing about how great you are. (even though I'm sure you're a great pilot!) Hope it works out for you.

Just go to the company's site and find their values and such and put that in your letter. I knew someone that used to do that for his LoR's :p

It's not arrogant to be aware of your finer qualities. If you aren't aware of them, this is a perfect time for some soul searching :) . Start with those things you take pride in, but haven't told anyone about.

Be prepared for some teasing from the Chief, but just give him a big grin.

(BTW, what he's asking you to do is common. One of my instructors just faxed me a bunch of his signatures, which I cut and pasted into a letter I wrote and he never saw.)

Sooo...
To Whom It May Concern:

I had the pleasure of employing SpiraMirabilis for the last year. He shows consistent dedication and persistence in the way he manages juggling being so damned good-looking with his preternatural flying skills. Many men would be concerned that these qualities would alienate themselves from their colleagues but Mr. Mirabilis is so down to earth that every guy wants to be his friend and every woman wants to jump his bones. Its a rare that Mr. Mirabilis goes the whole day without a young woman pelting him with her panties. In fact I've decided to give him a $20,000 raise retroactively from his first day of employment.

Sincerely,
Boss

^^^ something like that then?
