Yes, I'm going with faulty.

No other locations anywhere near KRAP were reporting conditions (wind wise) as strong as that.

Mid-50s are more representative of what they're really experiencing.

Cold temperatures and extremely high winds (>35kts) will tend to play nice little tricks on the sensors.

I actually live in Rapid City and am watching the blizzard at the moment. I can't get out of here... airport's closed as are most of the roads. Anyway, I don't believe the winds ever topped 95mph so the report is faulty. But, the gusting 70kt reports were around yesterday and accurate. It's amazing how much wind a person gets used to out here... I've landed gusting in the 60kt plus range numerous times.

Beautiful Spring day.

330? It's practically right down the runway. Just carry an extra 50 knots or so and it's cake. Don't be such a bunch of nancies! Hold my beer and watch me make the first turnoff.

What does the m1 mean right after the winds? Probably going to be one of those duh moments

it's actually m1/4.... less than 1/4 mile vis. That is accurate. Vis last night was 100-200 feet at my place. At the moment it's a lot better.

So if you let the plane hover five feet or so with the power off, can you still log it? If so, I'm heading to west Texas to to start the most profitable timebuilding program ever! Hell, I'll pull the engines off of an old Aztec and let people log multi PIC as well :D

Well, looks like I'll miss it. Stuck in FSD since 0600 waiting for RAP to open. Courier company called and they have no drivers that aren't buried under a drift somewhere so I get to head home.

Tell Preston I said "sucker!" :)

Stay safe man!
