I'm planning on doing my I's at ATP JAX, and I've read that there are 32 lessons plans that need to be completed prior to arrival. I'd like to get started on them before I fork over the $1k to reserve a spot. Does anyone have the subjects to cover, and maybe an example of what they would like them to look like?
Thanks!

Contact the Jacksonville location training center. Ask for the CFI Class teacher- Matt B. He will email them to you or tell you what to do. Have fun!

Just start working on your own lesson plans. Then use the information you get from ATP to help perfect your lessons when you finally get them. Thier lessons might expose some holes in your plans but then when you go in for your CFI checkride you'll know how to teach those plans better because you're words.

Well here's what you do... You go grab a PTS, go through each section and build a lesson plan for each area covered. Steep Turns, Power off stalls etc etc.

Another Option:

For 3 monthly installments of $12.99 They can be yours via electronic file. Order in the next 10 minutes and receive graphical illustrations absolutely FREE!! Call now 1-800 BE A CFII

I understand the PTS and its application in a checkride situation. What I was asking was if in a fairly rigid situation like a 14 day CFI program, where I'm sure they want you to do everything exactly as they want it, is straight and level flight a different lesson from climbs and descents, and separate from turns, or is it all together in one lesson.
Thanks for the helpful input, eclipse.

Each phase of flight is a different lesson plan: Straight and Level, Climbs and Descents, Turns around point...etc etc Don't forget Multi engine operations. Each lesson should state an objective, PTS standards for the exercise, step by step instructions, common mistakes, and tips for improvement on those mistakes.

I went through the FTY location in early 2008 and I did not put together a binder containing lesson plans for the purpose of the CFI practical.

Since you will be doing MEI first, most of the DPE's ask for a Vmc demo lesson plan. But I did hear that some DPE asked a guy to do a lesson on an elevator trim stall. Like most of the CFI candidates, he had spent many hours "perfecting" 32 or so lesson plans, but an elevator trim stall was not one of them. After I heard that, I decided a better approach was to just throughly study the AFH and PHAK and be prepared to teach anything. It worked. YMMV

There are some examples of lesson plans in the Instructor's Handbook.
