Last UPS DC 8

RIP....a sad day indeed. Used to see many of the older planes at ROW, and even here at MZJ, though we have mainly 747/DC-10s/DC-9s here.

I really wish I'd jumpseated on a UPS DC-8. Granted they had more glass in them than NWA DC-9s but, still...the DC-8! Oh well.

Unlike some other jets going to the desert these days, it seems as though these 8s are definitely not coming back out.

I had an UPS jumpseater last week going into SDF. He used to be on the -8, and is currently "in limbo." Apparently UPS is packaging up 10 DC-8s and putting them for sale in some type of deal. They might be back, just not in Brown.

I told him I'd start a rumor that XJT is buying them to start a "branded cargo division." Since it's the only sector of aviation we haven't tried yet.

I used to love to look at the DC-8s at KONT. I think they are beautiful planes. Especially with the CMF56s.

In November of 96 my parents sent me to Atlanta for Thanksgiving with my brother. My flight from ONT was cancelled because we were having these wicked winds. so my Dad had to drive me to LAX and I remember watching the news and seeing this.

I was out working on the ramp at the pax terminal at SDF the day the last ones flew out to the desert. Not to sound like a huge dork but it actually made it a little sad seeing the last four or so take off in quick succession. :(
