Just had to let you fellas, and ladies know....

I am officially done with A&P school. Time to take these written tests. My plan is to study my butt off and take them asap! I'm giving myself two weeks. My question to you all is how long after finishing school did you get your ticket. I'm interested to see what the spread is. Oh yea and who's hiring rookie A&P's :laff:? I'm in Georgia but ill go anywhere...... really anywhere

Took my Powerplant tests over 2 months. Huge mistake. Wish I'd applied myself and gotten them done within 1 at least. 2 weeks is a good goal.
My Airframe test is coming up, and I plan to take the written the day after I get my school certificate, and the Oral within 2 weeks.

I've heard from mechanics at ASA that they are hiring guys FRESH out of school because we lost MANY because of Delta recently. Can't hurt to apply. Just got a friend of mine who has experience an interview tomorrow.

I took mine about 4 months after I graduated, and after a solid two weeks of studying, it wasn't all that bad. Look around in the HSV area. There is a lot of opportunities there for A&P's if you're not set on just GA or airlines.

Good job, and good luck on the writtens/practicals.

Around a month for each, more or less. Practicals shouldn't be that hard, just follow the MX manual :)

To prepare for the Orals I used these two:

http://www.asa2fly.com/Oral-Practical-Exam-Guide-P263_product1.aspx

Both helped a lot, and I did actually aced all the orals.

Good luck!!

I used the ASA books before and they are good to use. There is software that you can get to go with it.

Good luck since we have not heard from you here in this post.

Thank you! Yes, I also used the ASA prepware. It was available at the school, and I also got my own copy. I use it here sometimes too, along with text books to keep my knowledge fresh.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I agree the sooner the better. Took the Airframe written on Thursday....... Got a 98. Plan on taking the General this Thursday. ASA Prepware is a great resource.

I plan on applying at ASA soon as i get my tickets but i'd really prefer GA

Have any of you done any factory maintenance initial schools??

I won a scholarship to attend the Flight Safety Citation 525 Initial Maintenance course. You might want to look into those if you're eligible, and from what I gather you should be. I don't have the link off the top of my head, but search for NBAA Maintenance TRACS program. You can't beat it!! There are many scholarships to apply for, ranging from engine schools and the way up to G-V Initial. I went about a year and a half ago.

Air1 i also won a mx tracs scholarship for the King Air 300/350 at Simuflite. I'm heading down their in September, can't wait. What are you doing for work now? I hoping having this under my belt will help me get that first job fresh out of school.

Congrats!! You can't beat it! Were you able to go to the maintenance convention they sponsor?

During my training, which was in Nov 09, I actually got a phone call letting me know I got hired with the Army (civil service gov't job) in Huntsville AL that I couldn't turn down. I hated to not ever put my schooling to use, but at that time jobs were few and far between (and still are) and the somewhat stability of this was a no brainer. I still stay in volved in maintenance and flying on the side, but just not as a career in the civilian side. Good luck to you at the class!!
