Just saw it mentioned in another thread that the 1900 can be flown single pilot. I didnt know this and it got me wondering, what are the biggest planes out there that are flown single pilot and by who?

Cessna Citation series can be configured to be flown by a single pilot!!

Wasn't there an old story/wive's tale of an airline captain who took a 727 for a cruise in the middle of the night on a layover? No idea where I read it, but it was a long time ago.

There was an Eygpt Air A320 that took off with just the captain, and a cabin full of passengers - this was after an arguement with the FO!

I had heard during training that the 1900 was the biggest, but I have nothing to back that up.

I'm gonna say the Metroliner, but I'm sure someone will come up with a bigger one.

The 1900 has got the metro by a couple thousand lbs. (Not to mention that the 1900 is such a better aircraft:) )

Spruce Moose! :D

[name the TV show!]

That would be The Simpsons.

However, there is some truth to that. The one and only time that the Hughes H-4 Hercules, "Spruce Goose" flew was done single-pilot by Howard Hughes, himself. If I recall from my visit 20 years ago, it was a pretty damn big plane.

The Simpsons parody involved C. Montgomery Burns becoming a recluse like Howard Hughes, thus the reference to the "Spruce Goose."

So, I would say, The Hughes H-4 Hercules would be the largest airplane ever flown single pilot, even if it was for less than a minute.
