Landing Fees

Just be ready to shake those f-16s off your tail if you try to run without paying.;)

On the serious side alot of places that have landing fees don't apply that to single engine trainers. Usually only applies to transport class aircraft. At least the ones I have flown into.

Support the little guy!

Don't land at an airport with a landing fee or buy gas from those that charge more than $4/gal.

What happens is this: said airport with landing fees gets the tail number, google's it and then send the bill to the registered owners. As an owner of a flight school aircraft I love nothing more than getting a bill in the mail or even better a letter from the airport authority that my plane was doing touch and go's after hours i.e. after the airport has closed for the night-yes, such places exist. I call the flight school owner, he finds you and it will come back to you one way or another.

You can find 100LL for less than four bucks a gallon?

Damn, you are one lucky mofo!

Take this for instance. Tomorrow I am flying from 0TX1 to T82. 0TX1 is private, but the locals have a fuel club where they buy in bulk and sell it to themselves for no profit. Current price is $3.40/gallon. If you're not a member of that club, you can fly 10 miles north to KGDJ where the self-serve is $3.65.

T82 is currently $4.37, but I have no intention of fueling up there. KAQO is practically on the route back only 35nm away with fuel for $3.65.

Check out http://www.airnav.com/fuel/ and never pay rip-off rates again.

Besides, it's fun to stop and all these little tiny airports that keep their fuel costs reasonable to bring in business. The people are usually much friendlier than the big FBO's who don't want to waste their time with you cuz you're not buying 400 gallons of jetA. If you don't support the little airports, they will continue to disappear.

Understood, but for many of us, large airport, small airport, in between airport, there is no gas around for less than four bucks a gallon.

I wish it weren't so, but going to airnav and plugging in my home airport, KGAI, gives me a price of $3.54 to $6.77. Ah, but wait, you'll say. There's one airport with a price of less than four bucks a gallon.

Uh huh. It's KVKX, one of the DC3 and you also have to be a member of the fuel club and pay $25 a month to get that price.

For many of us, the $4.00 threshold you're using is just not possible.
