flyover

Volunteered for an experiment at the locat Tech college. An engineer there is evaluating how glass cockpit pilots use FMS and autopilot when given reroutes.

So I flew 9 scenarios on a PC. Each time I was given a new route and a set of circumstances. Medical emergency, hydraulic problem, etc. I was also given different levels of automation, just autopilot, autopilot with FMS. Start about 60NM from the airport. Always some reason to change route, such as weather in the way, or just need to get on the ground quick.

I always just went for the closest downwind and quick turn to final. Answered questions after each scenario, then a large questionaire. The researcher said they had evaluated several US pilots with vaired backgrounds and each one did things differently. But when they studied some Dutch pilots from KLM who had all been hired young and trained by KLM, they all pretty much did everything the same way.

Guess I did OK, got some cheese after each run.
