KVCV - Victorville

Xcaliber

El Chupacabra
Another great week out taking pictures brought us to Victorville, home to one of the many aircraft boneyards/storage facilities.

1. They've got a looong runway, 15,000+ if I remember correctly
2. I didn't realize that there was so much money from the airlines just sitting there, not doing anything. I think I counted 31 747's at one point. I don't know how much these things have depreciated, but I'd bet there's still at least a couple billion dollars worth of aircraft just sitting there.
3. How many airlines can you name?
4. Land of the monsters
5. There were a lot of L-1011's out here. It's a shame I'll never see one of those things flying.
6. Doog Tyler!
7. Since it's a joint use air base, we passed some Predators that were getting worked on.
8. The new UAV helicopter was doing some testing or something on field, as well.

Was still George AFB, largest F-4 Phantom base in the AF, as I remember it.

5. There were a lot of L-1011's out here. It's a shame I'll never see one of those things flying.

As I remember, Delta sent their remainig fleet of L-1011s there to retire, except for one which flew one more additional flight out of VCV and went to MZJ, where it sits now providing parts to the Flying Hospital's L-1011.

I really like going to VCV. The tower will let pilots take an aerial tour as well of the airport. It is amazing how much aluminum is just sitting there wasting away. Boo!

Don't forget about the putting green in front of the FBO and Starbuck's brewing inside!!

:rawk:

The Cathay aircraft are all slated to be back in service in the next couple of months as well.

I didn't think you liked the large aluminum flying machines.

Hey Mike, if I EVER.....................make it out that way, think you could hook a brother firefighter/flight paramedic up with a tour? lol

If not, a beer at the local dive will do too. :cwm27:
