Hey Doug, I didn't know you liked korean food. Let me guess, you were eating at some place on 32nd St. in Manhattan right? Anyway, anytime your in the New York area, give me a heads up, Ill take you out to some good korean places, or if you want the home cooking, my mom cooks a mean korean meal. I mean, anything for a fellow Prescott alum. Have fun in the new plane.

He may be able to get some Korean food at Castle Airport (KMER) as well. :)

I love me some JAE-U (sp.) that spicy red pork dish! MMMMMMMMM

재육덮밥....Spicy pork and vegetables over rice. When I first came here to Korea I ate that almost every day for a month. 2 years later, there is no way that I can eat it

If you can, try to order HaeJangGook, kind of a beef soup with vegetables, rice, kimchi

If I'm not mistaken, there were alot of Korean restaurants in that area (32nd street). I was very surprised. One restaurant knew me very well, by name even : ) Gooood eatin.

Also try BeBimBap (I think that's what it's called). It's a spicy beef dish over a kind of a noodle soup. Also, BulGoGi is awesome.

Bulgogi x2. Yakimandu seemed to taste good only when drunk, I tried it sober once and wondered why anyone in their right mind would eat that stuff.

Speaking of Korean stuff, anyone ever try soju or a concoction of soju? Every time I drink it, I swear I get nightmares, I seem to wake up with less and less clothes each time as well as forgetting ANYTHING that happened the night prior. *shudders* evil evil soju.

I think that "concoction" your talking about is called makkoli. Boild rice beer I believe. I put sugar in mine.

I've had soju on several occasions. I don't remember many of those occasions, but I remember hating the next day......

you're right! EVIL Soju!!.

I was more or less talking about ammo bowls or soju cider but meh, makkoli doesnt sound bad.

Fish: I do remember drinking water seemed to make the hangover worse, what the hell was in that stuff?

After a year in Korea(97-98) I can say I never really could get into the food. Loves me some Chinese, but Korean, forget about it.

It is Soju that you're thinking of.....Evil, evil spirit.:nana2: Saw a guy pass out in mid-stride one night after he drank a bunch. Never seen that in the States.

I did see Soju being served at a place in Socal that could only serve beer and wine. I think it is considered "rice wine", but it has waaaay more alcohol then regular wine.:)

AMMO BOWL..!!!! I remember (vaguely) several nights during my tour in Korea having a jack hammer of a headache and totally %$##ed up. Soju is the devil. You can get white dogs, and soju mixed with an assortment of kool aid flavors--I was partial to the Grape or Lemonade sojus on the occasions I was up for it. I just typically stuck with OB.
Nothing beats fried Yaki after a night of throwin' back some drinks, but Bulgogi was my favorite with kimchi :-)

I hear ya. Soju is evil. But my family drinks it like its koolaid. Guess its a korean thing. Damn thing tastes like alcohol. Never really tried the flavored soju.

I've never seen flavored soju. What I usually saw was people putting it into Kool Aid. For some reason, by itself soju takes like fermented dog urine, but in Kool Aid it's basically flavorless.

(And don't ask how exactly I am able to make the above comparison).

After moving from Hawaii to the DFW area I thought I would never eat Korean food again for a long time but hey we found a Korea town close to DAL..can you guys beat $5 plate lunches?? yuke geon and all..yum yum..I guess the west and east coast have gotten use to Korean food by now. Only if they would open up a Yumi or a KC Korean BBQ at a mall here in TX I'm sure it would be a hit!! Yeah and soju is just like everclear..knocks you out! Anyhow gotta bribe the wife for some $5 plates tommorow night..sure beats fast food.

Nalu

I've only had soju mixed with kool-aid or soda and it is flavorless; that's what causes the problems! Those small clubs outside of the base at Yongsan were so crowded and hot that you'd just down the stuff not realizing how strong it was...until you woke up the next afternoon wishing you'd never been born!

I think I've had soju, but I dont' remember so it was probably soju. :p

Or you could drop some jollyrachers candy into it..LOL.takes a while to change color/flavor. I was once a pro at it..LOL..
