AFI just lost half their fleet when an Air Combat Marchetti had an issue on departure.

Looks like at least two AFI aircraft were hit, two of five.

Lucky it wasn't worse than it turned out. FUL doesn't have ready ARFF services for the field.

Wow, I have flown and was based out of that airport and know the guy personally that owns and runs air combat, not sure if he was flying but glad to see everyone is ok.

Who gives a damn about the planes? Was anyone hurt? How about the people in the plane that crashed? It's one thing to say "that's sad" after everyone is fine...but maybe we should at least cover that first?

We should have waited 3 hours before talking about this?

In the case of Steve Fossett they didn't find him for for over a year. What's your rule on those kind of accidents?

I've been in that hanger before (for an FAA seminar).
Good people at AFI, hope nobody was hurt and they're back on their feet quickly.

so did they skid into their own hangar?? Why does fholbert state they "lost half their fleet"??
I hope they can keep the biz going.
oh...and im glad nobody was hurt to badly....sorry almost forgot.

Big bummer. AFI is a great school. Losing that much fleet at once will likely cost many CFI's their job for awhile and students to go elsewhere.

Yea, AFI has been at Fullerton since the late 60's. The son has taken over the business from the father. Very few flight schools last that long.

From their web page:
We feel blessed that we have had the opportunity to be in business at the Fullerton Airport since 1967. We have trained several thousand pilots, many of them have gone on to fly for the airlines, achieving a life long dream. Others have continued to fly "real airplanes" in personal, missionary and business flights.
We would like to invite you to join us for a tour of AFI's campus on the Fullerton Airport. During the tour we believe that you will discover the joy our family has experienced in sharing our love of flying with our friends and customers.
