So I finally got a change to sign up for my first private pilot training today
I'm really excited and I can't wait to start (end of the month!).

However I have a question for you guys. I went to sign up for my ground school and on the form it asks for my "Pilot Certificate Number." What is this and how would I find it?

Thanks!

Do you have a 3rd class medical+student pilot certificate? If so, the number will be printed at the top of it.

I have a second class :)

Thats what I figured. Oh well, guess I have to wait to tomorrow to sign up.

Whatever class medical you have, if it is a medical+student pilot certificate (both things on one sheet of paper), it will have a number on it. If not, you messed up when signing up for your medical and will need to get a student pilot certificate from a designated pilot examiner (your school should be able to hook you up with this for a nominal fee).

I assume so. I don't really know to be honest, I'll have to check when I get home. What else could it be out of curiosity?
when you get your medical, can get either just a medical, or a medical AND student pilot certificate in one. What you need for starting private training is the medical+student pilot cert.

Just as a point of information, the FAA does not require anyone to have a student pilot or a medical certificate until they solo.

You can fly as many hours as you want with an instructor without having a medical or student pilot certificate.

I always recommend that folks take 2-4 actual flight lessons before getting their medical and student pilot certificate.

That way if you decide this is not for you, then you aren't out the money and time for the medical and student pilot certificate. It also keeps your name out of the FAA records.

Keep in mind that 64% of those students that obtain a student pilot certificate never obtain a pilots license. There is a high wash out rate on the training side of this industry.

Hello, So I'm a bit concerned here. I finally got my hands on my medical. In the upper right hand conner, it says : No:_________________. This line is completely blank. However right below that it says "MEDICAL CERTIFICATE CG-03------- CLASS AND STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE." So is my Pilot Certificate Number the blank line or the CG-03-------?

You might try asking this question to the flight doctor on his thread since he deals with this stuff every day.

Yes. Your certificate numbers is two letters and seven digits. It's not written on there with a typewriter like the rest of your certificate. It's stamped on by the FAA.
