Well we finally got the screen up in the tower to the radar at the field. For the longest time only Salt Lake Center could see it. I got to go up into the tower yesterday and check it out. I asked if I could "cut" an ATIS but they are not allowed to do that any more for liability reasons:D.

Interesting thing happened though. The tower got in trouble for using the radar screen to tell people where traffic was.

went down like this

One plane was inbound from the west and another was outbound to the west. The tower told both aircraft where their respective traffic was, and what altitude altitude.

I guess they are not allowed to say "traffic is" because they are not doing radar contact. They are trying to see if they can say "traffic appears to be at your (whatever) o'clock. I then asked if they could now give radar vectors and they said no. They still can only have one IFR inbound/outbound as well as we don't have have an approach and departure controller.

We had to pry four squawk codes from Salt Lake Center for Practice approaches but we got them which is nice.

Although it is kind of limited i think it will increase safty.

The Controllers also like it becasue they can see how fast people are bombing through the class Delta :D.

The airport at my school needs a tower. My airport has been getting busy and also attracts a lot of morons. Not everyone that flies there is a moron, but more and more keep coming.

Yah when it's busy, it's nice to have a tower. When i'm at an non-towered airport with a student and it starts to get crazy we just leave. Thats tough to do if thats your home base airport.
