Just a reminder: ACARS isn't private

How does that even work? They go in and manually delete it from your standing bid each month?
The bid is deleted and you have to enter you bid avoid name and PS# every month.

If they pick up the trip you’re on in open time or premium the system also doesn’t protect you. You do the trip with them.

Uh…you can just put your bid avoid in your default bid. If you don’t want to bid your default bid, copy your default bid that has the avoid and update your bid from there. It’s not rocket surgery.

Depending on your PBS rules, it will also ignore your Bid Avoid list if it has to go into denial mode to award you a line.

Ask me how I know this.

This. Does anyone protect you from a trip being picked up by a bid avoid? Can captains even bid avoid anyone? I honestly don’t know as I’ve been bidding reserve since before PBS was implemented.

I'm talking about the old system where you used to enter the avoid into the .pilot webpage. I haven't used PBS as an FO. Anyway the rumor was we can't have standing bid avoids because it indicated a problem with pilots flying the line that needed to be corrected. So it was a liability.

Oh... so you aren't even talking about bidding under PBS. Never mind then.

I didn't know the bid avoid process changed. It was completely separate from the line bidding portion. I haven't be able to bid avoid as a captain on the new system. I just assumed it remained a separate process. I guess not.

As a captain you can't bid avoid an FO under PBS. They have to award captain lines first, so the system knows what captain is assigned to each line so it then can process the FO "avoid pairing if employee number = XXXX" requests.

As a captain if you are dead set against flying with somebody, and it's a valid reason, you should be able to call your CP and have the FO removed from the trip. The bar for a captain, who has all the benefits of a power gradient in the cockpit, to have an FO removed from their pairing, needs to be really, really high, but it needs to be there.

So childish internet squabbles wouldn’t fit the bill? 😂

As FO I’ve never had any CA on block, nor tried to avoid any FO as a CA now. And yes, I have wild stories from both seats. That said, I’m not going to let some juicy trip pass because of the other person. I have zero problems staring out the window for 6 hrs if that’s what it takes.

Then again, I also don’t have anyone on a forum block.

Some of y’all need to toughen up. You do you, but I’m not sacrificing work quality trips because of the other pilot.

Perhaps I should have phrased that better: I can not bid avoid as a captain on the new system. I just assumed it remained a separate process. I guess not.

Thanks for the lecture though.

You should stop making assumptions 😉

Unfortunately, captains can not bid avoid FOs. You'd be the only one on my list BTW.
