JOPA or JORA

JOPA means "Junior Officer Protection Association". It's a joke -- sort of.

It's how the bottom three grades of US Navy officers unofficially band together to take care of each other against the backdrop of senior officers (specifically fleet-level O-4s and O-5s) who are less concerned with them than they are advancing their own careers.

In the USAF, we call this the "LPA", or the "Lieutenants' Protection Association".

I have no idea how it would apply to the demise of a weapon system like the F-14. I can't see how it would be related in any way, except as a scapegoat by some senior officers.

So what did the LPA/JOPA have to do with the Tomcat?

Our LPAs can barely keep the snack bar stocked, much less kill an MDS program.

I agree....not sure how JOPA would have affected the service life of a fleet aircraft? And no, it's not bad.....at least if you aren't a dirty hinge :)

I posted this on another site to just to get some different views. I mean im not married to either and will gladly support both.

I saw the term on a Fighter Fling video, i think it was the Tom Cat tribute, or one of the later ones. And i mentioned something about it not being the JOPA's fault.

It's kind of an esoteric thing to support unless you are a junior Naval officer with wings on your chest.

As for it killing the Tomcat, that doesn't even make sense. It's not really an official organization, and it certainly doesn't have any bearing on war planning, procurement policies, or the fate of a combat aircraft. I think the jab you were referring to was a parting shot from the Tomcat guys during that Van Halen section at the end of the last one, right? I think you may have misinterpreted what they meant on that one
