Joe Patroni, maintenance versus pilots

Love this part in Airport, with the 707 stuck in the snow. Joe Patroni, TWA maintenance supervisor, makes it happen.

Classic at :45 "....the 707 is built to withstand anything, except a BAD pilot!"

Oh man, we got a great laugh out of that one in the hangar. Thanks for posting.

Have none of you seen the movie?

I have the "Airport" box set. BY FAR the best is Airport, however all of them are valuable historical docudramas highlighting the lifestyle of philandering pilots, their interactions with flight attendants, er, stewardesses, and the abounding respect shown for these professions by the travelling public. Also, they are a valuable training tool, an example being the use of a Ferry pistol to decoy an inbound IR guided missile by extending it with your right arm outside the first officer's window, while inverted, outmaneuvering a F-4E. This technique actually demonstrated by Joe Patroni himself.

Here's a fun fact: The original "Airport" was shot at the MSP airport, but called the generic "Lincoln" airport. You can see the terminal that's still there today esp in the closing shots with the white roof...lots of pretty red tails to look at, too.

What's the title?

Airport. It was the first of the '70s series of Airport movies, and the one based upon the Arthur Hailey bestseller.

The guy who played the Lincoln Ground Controller used to be my boss at El Paso International ATCT.
