Posted on a respectable job board:

XXXXXXair is a FAR 135 cargo operator. We fly multi-engine piston Aero Commander 500B’s. We have a SIC program for our 135 that is FAA approved. (BOLD) SIC’s pay us $2,500 for our ground school, flight training, and FAR 135 SIC checkride. Then they pay $35/hour for the flight time they fly SIC with us.(END BOLD) It is a great way for low time multi-engine pilots to build quality multi-engine time so they can fly for us PIC or move on to the commuters or corporate. If you would be interested in our SIC program please e-mail me at JohnXXdoeXXX@XXXXXXXair RESPECTFULLY, John Doe Chief Pilot XXXXXXXair.

wow. Thats not a job.

Let us know who it is so we can send them some nasty emails!

I sent an e-mail to the job posting board explaining that this was not a job, but an advertisement for a scam artist who runs a cargo airline. If you are a REQUIRED crew member, you should be paid for your time at the company not the other way around.

This is the company. I interviewed a guy that "worked" for them, getting lots of "SIC" time!! I asked him in the interview how he logged that time, and how he justified it. He then proceeded to ask me what the regs were regarding that type of thing. After giving him hell for a little while, we didn't hire him.

To all of the folks that are thinking, "Hmmm, doesn't sound bad . . . ", remember - it can keep you from even getting a CFI job!!! ;)

They wouldn't be a required crewmember in a Twin Commander since it's cargo.

Assuming it's CASW, I've talked to a few of their pilots (PIC's), and it doesn't sound like that bad of a company. Or shall I say, I think there's far worse.

Yeah, I actually worked for that company, as a PIC of course. I'm not at all thrilled that they did that whole SIC program. I think it sucks. I didn't even know they did it until a few months into my employment. What's worse is when you're trying to fly and you have a kid sitting in the right seat with the ink on his commercial ticket still wet and he doesn't know how to intercept the localizer.
Other than that, it's a good company. Of course I was out-stationed and only had to deal with dispatch over the phone. I didn't have a supervisor or anyone where I was. It was nice.

Ok yeah if its cargo... didn't investigate the company very much. But that also leaves the question as to how would you log the time if your were to pay the company to sit in the seat.

Which is exactly how I nailed that guy in the CFI interview!!!!:)

I agree! It's down right awful. Once I found out the company I work for did that kind of thing, it made me fell icky. The funny thing is, the owners sincerely think they're helping these guys out with cheap multi time.
There is a beautiful blonde standing in line right now waiting board her Southwest flight to Denver. Man oh man!

The bad part about stuff like this is I've had two friends....One went and did 100HRS at CASW the other decided to change flight schools to DCA..................I can't really talk to either of them about aviation anymore because according to them "I can be a real ass"

Um, you got hired by Ameriflight, right?

I hope you didn't quit your last job because of the right seaters because AMF has a few right seaters on occasion from Eagle Jet or whatever that place is...

all ive got to say is robair73 really helped lighten things up there. i was just starting to get pissy about things like this again when out of the blue we get to here about some hot blonde. anyway just wanted anymore details on her. a picture maybe. come on help us loely pilots out.

Yeah, I didn't quit my last job because of the right seat thing. I'm not rich enough to let my principles prevail over my need for steady income. In fact, I've learned to ignore it. It's a sad state of the industry. It's been going on for decades and as long as there are pilots willing to "pay to work", there will be places to do it. It seems to be fairly common in the cargo industry. I mean I'm two for two for my last two jobs.
Sorry, no hot blondes to speak of today. But man, I wish I had my digital camera handy then.
