Position: Director of Safety Management Systems and Internal Evaluation Programs

Salary Range: $90,000 - $115,000 per year

SUMMARY:
The Director, Safety Management System (SMS) & Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) is responsible for ensuring that all NetJets Aviation, Inc. (NJA) safety policies, processes, and regulations are respected and complied with in all company activities and areas. This is accomplished through their performance of safety observations and evaluations, IEP audits, and assisting in the investigation of incidents and safety situations as they occur in the Company’s operation.

  • Assist the V.P. Safety in development and implementation of an SMS in accordance with the guidance contained in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular (AC) 120-92, Introduction to Safety Management Systems for Air Operators
  • Assist the V.P. Safety in development and implementation of an IEP in accordance with the guidance contained in FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 120-59, Air Carrier nternal Evaluation Programs
  • Conduct internal evaluations to ensure policy, regulatory and safety compliance within the company’s operation and identify areas of improvement opportunity
  • Analyze and evaluate audit findings, comprehensive fixes and trends, and create a plan of action to identify and correct safety issues. Prepare monthly reports for the V.P. Safety and senior management that detail the scope of each audit, audit findings, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Establish, maintain and coordinate SMS and IEP data with other internal safety databases to ensure data migration, accuracy and protection.
  • Perform safety analysis and trending of issues based on risk level. Implement a systematic approach for assessing and documenting the impact of issues and/or problems. Track actual occurrence against projected risks and impact.
  • Track Safety Recommendations, IEP findings and corrective actions to ensure that follow-up actions have been taken that are effective.
  • Assist in event-specific investigations into all safety related aspects of company operations, including, but not limited to aircraft accidents, incidents or irregular events , HAZMAT, OSHA, EPA, etc. and others as appropriate
  • Prepare quarterly and biannual safety reports for executive management including, but not limited to, safety and risk findings, corrective actions and evaluations of the effectiveness of those actions.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Essential:
Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Aviation Management, Business Management or related degree
4-6 years related work experience to include:
  • Previous experience with SMS or IEP program management or oversight.
  • Professional experience and/or education in auditing or investigations
  • Familiarity with safety analysis, trending and risk assessment.
  • Able to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to write effective reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to effectively present on both the individual level and to large audiences, including NJA employees, industry professionals and federal agencies.
  • Must be detail oriented with a proven ability to prioritize multiple objectives in a dynamic environment with constantly shifting priorities.
  • Technical computer expertise and proficient knowledge in commercial off-the-shelf applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Safety Management, Aviation Management, Business Management or related degree
Pilot License or an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P)
6-8 years work experience to include:
  • Experience within Flight Operations, Maintenance, or equivalent transportation industry experience.
  • Professional experience and/or education in aviation safety and/or internal evaluation/auditing.
  • Professional training and/or education in safety and auditing fundamentals.
  • Technical computer expertise and proficient knowledge in commercial off-the-shelf applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

OPERATIONAL DEMANDS

  • Normal working hours will be 0800-1700 Monday through Friday.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

I guess getting an aviation management degree as a back up really isn't all that bad of an idea. Sounds like a great (paying) gig.
 
Actually the salary seems a little low to me.....most of NetJets' 'managers' and 'assistant directors' are in that range. Aside from salary, NetJets has the best benefits package that I have ever seen.
