After reading these forums for a few years I’ve discovered good information is hard to find and the good stuff can often turn bad quickly. Jetcareers at one point was the equivalent of CNN or 60 Minutes, good solid discussions that you could learn from. Lately things have gone down to the Jerry Springer level. Now this is not a reflection of the moderators or owners of the board, they’re providing an open forum and with over 3000 members things can get out of hand quickly. Free speech is great and should be highly valued, but trash talk and name calling is not why I became a Jetcareers member back in 2002. Sometime I feel like I’m reading a transcription from a bunch of 10 year olds, “my dad can beat up your dad so nah nah.” Some topics seem to be beat to death on a weekly basis. PFT, academy vs. FBO etc.

I’m not asking that everyone agree, hold hands and sing kumbaya, that would be crazy talk.
What would be nice is a bit of respect, discretion and professionalism.

This board has become very popular, and with the increased traffic topics being beat to death over and over again is inevitable. You just have to pick out the good and the bad.

Can you name one board out there on the internet that is better than this one? I'll help you out by weeding out the first one - airliners.net.

What thread(s) in general caused you to create this thread!

Yeah I would be interested to know what sparked this thread, I have not seen anything bad on here.

Agreed. In the lav, yes, but then, that's why it's the lav!

Or is he talking about the "should airlines stay loyal to one aircraft maker" type thread?

Simple solution. If you don't like the thread or the post or whatever, then move on to the next question. It appears that you have been a member for close to three years and only have 40 posts? The number doesn't necessarily mean quality, but that's what 1 post every 2-3 weeks. If it is so bad, what have you contributed to the discussion to try and change it.

It's just like a t.v. If you don't like what's on a given channel (thread) then move on to the next.

Plain and simple.

i have to agree with pilotots to an extent there are some threads that have become flat out bickering. but arguement is not always a bad thing. there are always two sides to everything and its good to present those points. however as has been pointed out it is an awesome forum. i myself havent been perfect but we can agree to disagree on things and be professional about it. once again though this is the best forum ive seen.

I'd LEAVE!

I hate Fox News. With a passion. If this place turns to Fox News, I'm outta here.

Ok here is a post that I think started out with good intentions and went down hill. quickly. This
"PanAm sucks, FSA is great, I'm cool blaa blaa blaa"

Yes I realize I don’t need to read posts I find annoying. Yes like a TV I can change the channel. I believe that before you just walk away from something it’s nice to try to change it for the best and fix the issues. Yes I do only have 40 posts, I don’t think that’s a problem, you might only have 40 hours yet I don’t discount the information you post or your opinions. And as for the CNN comment – I think every news outlet has some bias but the information they provide is above the Beavis and Butt-Head intellectual level. If I want entertainment or pure Tom Foolery I’ll read the posts in the lav section. Open and intelligent arguments are one thing monkeys punching each other in the groin is another.
And no there are not any other good aviation boards out there, but Jetcareers is quickly sinking to their level.
Now look what I started.

I'll admit that I probably jump in on a lot of hopeless arugements and keep going for a bit too long. The Pan Am thing was one of them, and I'm not even reading that anymore. The current ERAU thread, I (and several other members) are trying to better educate a younger member, and in some cases trying to keep him from making the same mistakes we made (or in my case ALMOST made). I HAVE noticed a serious increase in personal attacks, and that ticks me off. Arguements and discussions are informative and can cause some good a lot of the time IF it stays in the realm of arguement. When you get into name calling, insulting, etc, then not only does it hurt the discussion, it discredits the speaker.

Yes you get my point exactly.

pilottots, dont take this the wrong way, but really if you sincerely cared about the quality of the website you might of been able to contribute more than 40 posts in the past 3 years. If you became more involved and proactive, perhaps the posts that you discredit so rapidly may not of happened in the first place. Just my .02...

As Doug mentioned before he loves it when the boards self moderate to keep things in line. I agree that you should have posted more than 40 times to help with the "madness".

So in your opinion quantity not quality is the issue. I’m not sure I understand your logic. I feel that if I don’t have anything to add to a topic beyond what has already been said there is no reason for me to post. If I feel strongly about something or if I have a point of view that has not already be expressed then I have and will continue to post, if not then I keep my mouth shut and my fingers off the keyboard. I’m not saying everyone should do this, it’s just what I do.

Um, you do realize that a large number of JC posters are teenagers, right? If you're expecting nothing but scholarly debate, you're in for disappointment.
