I solo'd tonight. Yay!

Such an amazing feeling.

The 172 leapt off the ground, and I was to TPA before I was done turning to my downwind. She climbs amazingly fast without my 250lb instructor next to me.

Landing #1 was a little bumpy, but I was pretty happy with it.
2 and 3 were awesome, and my CFI said he didn't even hear #3.

I was high on every approach, but I got to adjust as I saw was necessary and learn to trust my own judgment. That was almost the best part of it all.

And just before I took off for #3, the tower closed. So I had to do position reports with no formal training. (Just what I've seen from a friend and from MSX)

Such a good day :D

:nana2:

Edit:
Pictures and video to come. My parents came to watch, and by the end of my 3rd pattern, I had about 10 people outside my school cheering :p

No, actually.
I wouldnt want the shirt I was wearing cut anyways :p

Im going to take a nice cheap white shirt to my next lesson though, should he want to do it then.

to be honest, i really dont know what any of what u typed means. all i know is that it appears as if u were flying a plain solo for the first time. it seems like a good accomplishment. congrats!

I didn't realize I was sweating so much until I was getting out. Aparently that was harder than I thought hehe :D

And for thoes of you who cant quite make it out...

Windows open on the takeoff roll >_<
I nearly aborted because I was trying to close it while building speed. Finally got it closed right around 55kts.
It scared the hell out of me, but at least I learned not to rush the takeoff.

Next time your window opens on takeoff, just ignore it. You can open those windows inflight and it's no big deal. Don't let yourself be distracted on takeoff.

Those pics were really cool. What airport is it? Whiteman?

Yep, Whiteman. (WHP)

I just read an article on AOPA's website about doors opening in flight.

I just didnt know any better and though that the extra drag would make the flight harder.
I know better now.

I once had a door come open on takeoff, but the airstream keeps it from coming wide open. It actually felt good.:)

Congrats!!

We fly with the windows open all the time here in the south... hot as heck with them shut. It's a little louder, but the breeze feels great!

I dunno if you can do it with the 172, but you can steer a 152 all the way around the pattern by yawing it with the doors in case of a uh... "flight control" failure.

Congrats on the solo. I remember exactly what you mean about how quickly the airplane climbs with nobody else in it for the first time.

You can actaully, it is just a lot harder to do in a 172 then a 152, but it is doable.

Congrads on your solo. I can still remember how empty that right seat felt when I was up all alone for the first time!

Congratulations brutha!! That's an amazing feeling. I like reading these threads cause it makes me want to go out and fly.

Congrats on your first solo. I just soloed last Wednesday. By the way, the max speed in a 172 for a window open is Vne, so its no big deal (I did the same thing on my 3rd takeoff, along with forgetting to put in 10 degrees of flaps, since the airport I fly out of is a short field.)

Many years ago, when I was a fairly new pilot, I took my grandfather flying. We were just getting up to speed when the door popped open (don't ask me how it popped open INTO the windstream, but it did). Now, it probably would have been fine, but I could just imagine my grandpa having a heart attack thinking he was gonna fall out, so I calmly aborted the takeoff, taxiied back (past my very confused dad!), closed the door, and took off again.

My grandfather had a great time (eventually) and it's one of those memories that I'll never forget! :)
