It's time

So things are going okay at the job, but I personally think it's time. The stability isn't there, and I'm ready to move on.

I've had the golden handcuffs for a while and my family and I are ready for something else.

5000+ TT, 1300 G450, 3500ish PIC, around 3000 PIC turbine, around 2100 jet PIC.

Yes, in some ways, this is a fun thread, as I pretty much know what I want to do when I grow up, but in some ways, it's a brainstorming session...

Thoughts, ideas?

Also, a lesson for those up and comers, the grass isn't always greener, even if flying a Gulfstream...

Golden handcuffs, eh? I think I may just have developed a bondage fetish.
So if I find you a new gig, can you fast track me into your old one? ;)
Да, я говорю по-русски!
Are you looking for Corporate, Private... what?

MGM is hiring. That would get you stateside and you could network your way into a good job from there. Also I'm fairly certain a friend of mine jumped right from there to United. So, anything is possible.

Apparently it is a bit of a revolving door but if you are back in the states you can find a way better job a lot sooner.

So basically, I have 2 options. I can try to go major, where i have about 20 years left, if I go the full 65. Or I can try to stay corporate/private. I have become accustomed to nice hotels and nice layovers, along with a few not so nice (Siberia in the winter sucks, fyi).

I'm still tied to Jax due to family circumstances, and that will be for a while. So, corporate in Jax is almost non existent. The one company I had some ties to I no longer have. It would be nice to drive 30 minutes to work again, but not sure that is in the cards.

So it's either something home based or airlines. I have no 121 experience so that puts me behind the curve on that area, but it's still in play as far as I'm concerned.

I'm tired of commuting 5000 miles to work, so I don't necessarily want Asia, but it's still in play right now, as the pay is equivalent or better than where I am.

I've put a lot of money away, and made good financial decisions, so I'm not concerned about retirement as much as some others. It's good piece of mind, but I also don't want to slip too much on qol.

So to answer the stay big corporate aviation, that's the goal. But I will say I no longer can say I haven't applied to airlines anymore, to use a double negative...;)

As for those wanting my job, I'm not sure that's in the cards. Myself and my compadre that I rotate with are the last ones left as far as we know. Russia/U.S. relations have not been so good lately. :D

Are there any 121 operators with a base near where you live? I was under the impression you lived overseas. Woops. Anyway I'd recommend you go 121 ASAP but be sure to live in base. This is essential.

I added on after you responded. Unable to move at this time, but there's a semi big operator within an hour flight for me. I'm sure it's major senior, but I could see eventually living by a nail emporium...

If you can stomach the paycut, Atlas is an ok place to hangout. There are many many reasons why it's a wildcard for the future. MAY turn into something awesome in 5 years, may be out of business. But it'd give you a taste of the airline world and position you for a legacy job. The major plus is no commuting/crashpads.

Yeah, that's a HUGE paycut. I haven't ruled it out though. I'm still in the brainstorming phase but seriously looking now.

IT all depends on how much time you got until you "need" something. You definitely don't need to build any experience to get on with a legacy but if you are just now brainstorming, you could be the lucky guy that gets a call first go around or you could be one of thousands that have waited 5+ years to hear a peep.

Completely understood and agree 100%. I'm still trying to figure out if I need to really be on the ball on this or if I have time to be selective. The apps are rolling out though. This rotation, I'll have apps in for a few airlines and some other operators. We'll see what happens.

A lot of corporate guys have been getting picked up by SWA. The two I know well seem to like it so far.

Personally, I don't follow the crowd. I think the mass exodus out of corporate is going to drive salaries up in order to retain and attract good people. Companies have to start paying mid 200s on average for large cabin captains or they will lose all of their pilots 45 and under.

Full time contracting is another route to possibly go down. Once networked in, or with one stable client that can get you ten days/month on average it's possible to do full time and make a decent living. Getting hooked in with the big G in SAV as one of their contract pilots is a ticket to some serious cash.

Good luck no matter what you do Joe. Hope you find something that suits you well.

I know of 3 part 91 gigs that were recently filled, or will be filled, by retired legacy pilots for way under market wage. I think the top few percent of 91 jobs will raise pay with the market, but I think the mass retirement at the airlines will be a a detriment to a lot of part 91 jobs unfortunately.

Yeah I think this next time home I'll be taking a trip to SAV. It's interesting times for sure right now.

Good luck in your endeavours, Tim. I've been keeping up with your adventures through Wes. Sounds like interesting times for everybody.
