It's only a name!

mooneyguy

been around forever
In aviation your name is all you have. If you have a good reputation (a good name) you usually have success. If you have a bad name, it follows you every where! I'm somewhat new to professional aviation and I have seen first hand the results of both. Aviation is a SMALL world for sure!

All that to say Thank you to Career pilot School! I have been there three times. The first to work on my Comm single, the second for my CFI, CFII, and MEI, and the third to finish my MEI.

Last June I was at CPS in Kansas to get my three CFI's. I had finished my CFI, and II, and was two days into my MEI, when I had to leave the school very abruptly due to a medical reason. Almost a year later I finally was able to return to CPS to finish up.

Even though it has been nearly a year Michael managed to get me in on a pretty short notice and get me finished up. The company has even had a change of ownership since my last visit.

The new owner honored the prepaid arrangement originally made by Michael no questions asked!

I want to say thank you very much to Michael, and Patrick, Bhavesh and Ron and ALL the guys past and present who have helped me out there at CPS. We had some bumps in the road along the way, but you guys always held true to your word!

You guys have a very good name in my book, and are a much respected flight school!

Aviation is a very small community, that guy sitting around the pilot lounge might be the same guy that gets you the job at Delta or Wal-Mart or FedEx.

I feel bad for the guy that is named after his dad, whom is on the scab list.

In the real world there's 6 degrees of separation. In aviation it's more like 3. There's really no room to be a jerk to anyone if you want to succeed in this industry. But there is the exception. ;)

Sitting around at the bar yesterday with 5 other reps of our union scheduling committee and one of the other pilots on the groups looks to the pilot on my left and says "I know you from somewhere... I recognize you." So they go down the list of places they had worked in aviation. Turns out they both graduated from ERAU in 03', and probably had a class together. Amazing stuff.

There have been lots of stories about pilot mills screwing their students, shutting down and leaving those people out their money with huge loans, etc. It is great to hear about CPS and how they do things. I lunch with Michael about once per quarter and it this post confirms all the things I already knew.

Your name is your reputation, your word is your bond. It was out of fashion for a while, but one imagines that what with the economic cataclysm we're embarking upon, being a shifty, lying, two-faced so-and-so might not be so "cool", anymore. At least for a while.

Here's to the CPS guys. Never had any personal interaction, but I have heard universally positive things. I would heartily encourage someone to print this thread out and post it in places they think prospective students might look.

After meeting Michael at NJC08 and hanging out at a meet and greet, I can really say that he is a stand up guy. All he needs to do is set up shop in Phoenix since I can't go out of state for training.

I'm still waiting for the CPS San Antonio Office so I can work for them here! :D

I just got home after 8 weeks of training down at CPS and second everything Tim said.

CPS is a quality outfit with quality people and and quality aircraft and they honored every promise made to me before I arrived.

In keeping with the theme of a need for some CPS style action in every state, I tried to talk Michael into expanding into Alaska. Maybe the mountains will lure him in...

Paul, It was a pleasure to meet you. Congratulations on the IR, CMEL, and CSEL. That was a lot of work for you. to bad I had not arrived sooner, would have enjoyed getting to know you a little better, and hearing about Alaska. I would love to go there some day! However, having a wife from South Texas who believes winter starts when the temp falls below 70...I dont think living there will ever be an option for us...:D

Nice to see a positive post - I will certainly take this into consideration when it comes time to go for some of my add-ons. Congrats to the OP for going back and finishing up.

Thank you for all of the kind thoughts. CPS isn't perfect, but we do strive to make everyone that comes here an excellent pilot. In this day and age when you don't know if your flight school is going to be here tomorrow, we operate with honesty and integrity so our students know where we stand at all times. There are some very positive that will be occurring at CPS in the coming weeks that I believe will set us apart from our competitors. Stay tuned!

Michael
